Not sure the Post Office will accept a print out - otherwise you could make your own. I could be wrong, but that would be my first thought.

You can tax your car online, and then at least you'll know you're covered(ish): https://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/

Some post offices will and other won't. I had to go to a small village PO to accept a print out of my insurance certificate.

I need to go to the DVLA office tomorrow, the car I bought was registered to a disabled peron who was exempt from tax, so I need to change the V5 back to Private and get a new disc.

But It needs to be done tomorrow as its the only day this week they will be open.

Swiftcover.com only do print outs, so they must need to be accepted surely?

Never had a problem with a printed copy, that said you don't need to present anything other than the V5 now.

Since when? I taxed the bike last week and forgot the insurance, had to go and get it or no tax.

Must be a year or so ago last time I went into a post office and just handed over the V5, nothing else required. We just do it online now, I can't stand the post office!

If you don't mention its a printed certificate you should be fine. My mate recently went to tax his bike and mentioned it was a printed certificate and they wouldn't accept it. The next post office that did tax disks we went to we didn't mention the fact it was printed. They did question it I think but just told them it was what the company sent. If I remember quickly he didn't actually get anything posted just an email anyway.

I've had a Swiftcover printout refused - the Post Office aren't supposed to accept them but I think it really depends on the diligence of the Postmaster/mistress.

Ironically I went to the Police Station to produce my documents this evening (Licence and Insurance) following this debacle and they accepted the Swiftcover printout without a murmur of complaint Confused

Someone who isn't me says that using home made insurance certificates to buy tax is easy.

They accepted mine today (big city PO).

I insured my car a couple of days ago, but it didn't show up on the national insurance database so I couldn't do it on line. My insurance is with swift cover which is all based on line, so I printed out the cert, took it along with the V5C and the V10 form and got the disk there and then.

Swift cover I believe even state on their site that they do not send any documents out in the post, and that you print them out if you want them. After all, all they do is print them out on a laser printer, so whats the difference us doing it! They dont use any special paper. All insurance is now recorded on a national database now anyway and the police can check that way.

Mine wasn't on the database this morning, but when I chcecked again this afternoon (after I'd taxed it) it was showing up!

Thumbs Up
