Just fitted this lot to my XR...

Well I've only ridden it once and various bits broke Laughing

so since the last time I rode I've fitted

Tag T2 fat bars with WRP fat bar clamp adaptors
Easton grips with grip donuts
New decomp lever + cable
New Kawasaki KX style kill switch (honda ones SUCK)
EGO Barkbusters (well reccomended, look good and they are SOLID)

Had to take all the throttle cables off today and lube them all up as wel as tighten almost every bolt on the bike, previous owner was good at cleaning but not at checking bolts for tightness! The whole front end was loose which I found out the first day I rode when I fell off and twisted the whole front end up Laughing

Also had to bleed both brakes with fresh fluid, the front caliper is going to need cleaning properly soon as its binding Rolling Eyes

and a full service is also needed... but it's getting there.

I'm having some issues with the throttle still and with the clutch, but it should be rideable for now.

I'm almost 80% sure there was practically no oil in it when the prev owner sold it to me Rolling Eyes

as I've just had to put in half a litre and im sure they only hold about a litre in total.... hope no lasting damage!

All in all its now good as new, feels good and rides well, love the handlebars and the barkbusters on the road, can't wait to go trail riding tomorow and hope nothing else breaks! Laughing

It's still a farmers tractor, but it's growing on me Laughing

p.s I appreciate that the above picture is pretty much useless at showing anything but the barkbusters, but they do look nice Laughing

p.p.s does anyone know where to get shorty levers for my bike? I hate long ones anyway but they are too long for the barkbusters so really need some shorty ones...

Had a few 125 trail bikes before doing my test and lusted after a DR350SE at the time, thought I'd have one once I passed my test but ended up with road bikes up until last week when I got a KLX650.. probably the best move I made.. ever! Laughing

Nice - be careful how you check the oil level though, it's a bit of a git to get an accurate reading, doing it wrong often leads to it showing low on the dipstick. I found the best way was to do it after a ride and properly warm. Just stop and let it idle bolt upright and quickly check the level.

The gear shafts are rubbish on the XRs. The splines on mine smoothed away after 15k miles. After various bodges I finally took it to a motorbike racing garage who drilled a whole between the shaft and the gear lever, then tapped some metal in. Has been brilliant ever since.

Oil on these can be tricky. The way I have always done it is get the bike upright, let it idle for a few minutes then check the levels, then top up. I then double check after my ride, never had any issues.

Is the front sprocket meant to wobble and move back and forth on the spline? Doesn't seem right to me, like there is a washer or plate missing? Spline and sprocket are both fine as is the locking plate, just seems a lot of play in it, normal?

Completely, mine wobbles slightly. Ensure the 2 bolts are secure and you will be fine. Thumbs Up

To stop the brakes binding, put a bit of copper slip behind the dust seal when you rebuild them. They are a bugger for seizing, mine is anyway.
