Righto, back a few months, i had a little accident involving some parkour, a big gap in a building and a metal pole.

Long story short, i landed on the balls, and now have a big crack in my pelvis that's taking it's time healing up.

Now my problem is, that before this... Obviously i was active, parkour, jogging, cycling and the like.

Now i can't do any of them because of this injury... It hurts like a bitch whenever i walk or even attempt to run, even on the bike it's sore.

Now i know a lot of people have had a lot of injuries on here... So what do you do to stop yourself getting fat but avoifding further injury? Laughing

I have a home gym, with a bike, treadmill, weights and rowing machines, but all of them hurt bar the weights.

Just wondering if i'm going to have to wait till this bloody injury gets better, or am i going to have to diet....

Oh yeah, i already eat well, nothing over the top, you know, health freak.

Well, that's apart from the occasional KFC Thumbs Up

Cheers

Seriously, concentrate on resting and getting your pelvis better. Fitness and gaining weight shouldn't be a concern in the slightest. If you're as active as you say that can all be sorted out AFTER you've healed up.

I have been resting... It's bloody boring though.

And it's not gotten any better. It's taking it's time healing.

The doctor said theres nothing they can do about it unless it gets worse Thumbs Down

I now have a belly Sad

Its a french sport.

Running mental through town jumping over shit and generally being annoyng Thumbs Up

Same as freerunning, but a bit more athletic, i.e. flips and the like.

If you're ever in edinburgh go through princess street and hunters square. That's our usual hangouts... It's a lot of fun till you fall and hurt yourself.

Heres a couple guys taking it to the extreme, playing tag Thumbs Up

Edit: Thinking about it, it helps improve your spacial awareness and concentration, a lot of bikers, IMHO, would be good at it if they trained well enough for it Laughing

Swimming is super low impact, doesn't put any load on the joints. Highly unlikely to cause any more damage.

Swim 200m butterfly as fast as you can. The answer to the above will become immediately obvious. Start with "everything" then move onto the muscles you didn't know you had.

Also look into pilates, isometric so again zero impact.

Yes, I'll second swimming. But stick to the long strokes, front and back crawl - at least with your legs. Also, when in bed or sitting, don't cross your legs/ankles. It's a tough one to unlearn but it helps massively.

I am fairly inactive due to my pelvis damage, and only get exercise through work, up and down from my chair, walking and lifting paper reams. So I start off the day with a big cereal based brekkie, pick at fruits and nuts and sesame sticks for lunch, and do veg and fish/chicken in the eves.

Works for me!

According to my chiro, 30 mins of continuous constant pace swimming is the way to go to burn calories and tone up. Aim for 22 lengths or more, I think.

It's tough going at first. But worth it for results.

Hmm forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't parkour aimed at getting from A to B in a quick time using fast fluid and efficient moves.... no fancy flips etc.

freerunning is like parkour but more show boating such as flips etc....

thats what I was under the impression of when I did a bit of it a few years ago.

Isn't parkour just french gimps running about like 4yr olds on smarties and freerunning is yanks doing the same.
Hope you heal, but have no sympathy for grownups running around acting like nobs and breaking themselves.

Well I actually think it's rather good, and its a good thing for teens to focus on/channel their energies into, there is a group from Basingstoke, who have got themselves on local news and a show on tv recently. Thumbs Up

Listen to your body, it generally tells you what you need to know.

If you give yourself a month off now it will be better than being restricted constantly 10 years down the line because you didnt bother to sit down for a bit.

I've just spent the best part of a year getting an old knee injury sorted which could have been done at the time of the accident if I'd just rested it more.

My advice is dont do ANY excercise until you have fully recovered, whether you want to listen to that or not is up to you.

I know what you're saying...

I would, but i'm finding myself becomming overweight...

I've changed my diet quite a bit... Swimming seems a good idea if it's all im doing...

I just need to do something to keep in shape, it's easier to put it on than it is to burn it off Laughing

I've got a holiday from work for the next few weeks, i'll rest it and if anything changes, i suppose i can just build it up from there.

Cheers

Don't forget to check out the pilates. They are exercises that were originally designed to help rehabilitate injured WW1 servicemen.

The control, breathing and balance aspects would probably help with your parkour too.

Sorry but I disagree. Swimming is incredibly harsh on knees and pelvis due to twisting and pulling of the muscles surrounding these areas. It's likely that his doctor would recommend he stays away from this activity.

Dunc. If you have been told to rest it. REST IT. By listening to medical advice you'll be more likely to recover enough to regain your former fitness levels, if you don't you may do more damage, and end up never returning to that physical standard again.

I'd think that you could get away with doing upper body resistance training which will increase muscle mass thereby increasing the amount of calories you burn whilst you rest up your lower body too. Plus the exercise in itself will benefit you.

I've seen guys with one leg win bodybuilding competitions and disabled people training regularly, if they can do it, you can too Thumbs Up

There is no impact though, there can't be, the body is effectively weightless when in the water. Any resistance is purely isometric.

Granted, But it's been proven to have a detrimental effect to those with joint problems.
