well on my way home from petrol garage just now had a bike catch up with me. i looked ove rmy shoulder it was an enduro bike with l plates. so i sat there doing 65 ish and this bike pops a wheelie and pulls away from me. so i pinned it (33bhp zxr400 doesnt really go some) go to the tonne mark and started to gain on it .. so im sat there thinkign wtf. then when it comes to turning up to my housing estate the bike also turns in (obviously slowed down by now) and pulls in 5 doors up to me. to my shock its a drz 400 with full fmp pipe and knobley tyres.

so wtf is going on here? taking the piss with L plates for cars to try and play with him?

and i know the guy use to have a suzuki maurauder 125 up untill 2 months ago then a drz apeard but i knever looked close or heared it running untill tonight

Maybe he's just passed his test but is still riding with l-plates for whatever reason (like couldnt be bothered to buy p-plates but still wants drivers to be aware or some shit)

It wouldnt surprise me in these days of bullshit legislation....

I couldnt find an answer with my brief search, although I did find out japan actually has a 'plate' for old people as well as learners, quite a good idea I thought.

Maybe he's hoping that by sticking L-Plates on it the rozzers will think it's just a DT125 or something.

Back in the day I knew someone who bought a belgarda-variant TZR125, but it sadly blew up. Next week he got a TZR250 in the same colours and as the bikes look practically the same he swopped the plates over and stuck his L's on. It was very naughty but he never, ever got stopped even with all this ANPR madness going around.

When I brought my RXS100 from someone in Wales he told me his wife was going to be riding a 400cc on L-Plates till she had passed her test.

I started to question this knowing 110% this is clearly illegal but then thought to myself "Ive ive convince him im right then he might not want to sell the RXS you just travelled 1.5 hours to come collect".

So I changed the subject and let him get on with it. Really not sure where people have got this idea from!

Probably some idiots getting confused about the DAS learner bikes. Where you can ride something up to 45bhp or so on L plates. But obviously only as part as DAS and accompanied by an instructor (and being over 21).

Some people are just stupid though.
