They're on-road ones, but does it really matter if you're wearing off-road ones? I have a pair of A* SMX air carbon gloves (the old ones), and no-one's called me a prat for wearing them: if anything I get asked where I got them from.
Off-road gloves are usually quite nice for hot weather, in my experience - they're lighter than normal road gloves, and they still offer some protection, so there's no major reason to avoid them. ____________________ '10 SV650SF, '83 GS650GT (it lives!), Questionable DIY dash project, 3D Printer project, Lasercutter project |

Erm, I'm guessing your off-road gloves aren't quite the same as modern ones - which tend to be a mesh with single bits of leather for minor impact protection (flying stones etc). |

Mine have got leather palms on them, as well as a fair bit of rubber and carbon fibre on the back of the hand. They definitely feel more substantial than my Hein Gericke summer gloves, which bear an alarming resemblance to the cloves that you seem to be describing, G.
Of course, we should all bear in mind that as a child, I had an alarming propensity toward using my face to break my fall, as opposed to my hands, which is probably why I'm not so concerned about the strength of my gloves ____________________ '10 SV650SF, '83 GS650GT (it lives!), Questionable DIY dash project, 3D Printer project, Lasercutter project |

G, since when did you become a safety facist?

Erm, you may have missed a recent post of mine .
However, my usual point is that, as with anything in life, it's fine if you understand and accept the risks.
Someone that's worrying they might look a prat in off-road gloves even though they don't know what off-road gloves look like, is, to my mind, very unlikely to understand the risks.
I've never seen mesh road gloves, but if they do exist; I would expect they are made with abrasion resistant mesh, as opposed to what isn't too far off a pair of strong tights. |

Well, here's the HG gloves:

And the A* ones:

The Alpinestars ones are a bit thinner, but much better protected, in my opinion. No mesh in sight on them, either...
I think I know the kind of gloves that you're on about, though, and I do honestly reckon that anyone that wears a pair of gloves built like that on a motorbike and expects them to actually protect their hands is a bit of a muppet. These gloves are not, however, like those... ____________________ '10 SV650SF, '83 GS650GT (it lives!), Questionable DIY dash project, 3D Printer project, Lasercutter project |

(Joe Rocket summer gloves)
Crashed in them twice, I've still got my full compliment of skin (still got the gloves too).
Carbon bit was good though, took a fair chunk out of it so probably best that it was there. |
