Posted: 11:30 - 15 Aug 2009 Post subject: My mate needs some help with his bike, anyone? |
 |
|
My mate has a Suzuki GP 125, an 82 model, so it's really old but looking at it, it's in mint condition for its age.
He has a slight problem which probably occurs on any bike, so hopefully someone will be able to help.
His fuel tap used to leak, and his bike used to die out every time when starting it up. He held in the clutch and slipped it into 1st, and it just died out, all the time.
He now has a new fuel tap fitted, and the problem seemed to have gone away, but now there's no leakage of fuel from the tap, and the engine still dies out on odd occasions.
He warms it up, uses the choke when needed to, and when he knocks it into first... same again, dies out
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers |

Sounds electrical to me.
My advice would be to strip the electrical connections, clean them with some wet and dry paper and water to remove rust. dry them and put them back together.
most likely problem is the sidestand switch if it has one.
PS this should be in the workshop section ____________________

Cheers Dale
My mate has just checked over, and his spark plug is all black? Which doesn't make much sense as he only bought it like a week ago brand new....
Anyhow, he's actually replaced it with another new one and now it seems to be working fine, ticks over nicely, idling speed is all good and when you slip into first it doesn't die out
If any problems persist though, i'll make sure he gets his electrics checked over
Thanks for the help mate, surprising that it was the spark plug, last thing we thought of due to it being new.... Do you have any idea why it was black? |

Stand corrected.
I'm joking, I don't know F all about the issue, just a random long shot guess. ____________________ Roger wrote: Women don't get damp for clingy puppies. Get some better happy pills, hit the gym & buy a medallion the size of a dinner plate. Job done |

I had the exact same problem, turned out to be the sidestand failsafe thingy. I simply cut the wires, twisted them together, drowned them in electrical tape and hid them behind the battery ____________________ Previous - Sinnis Apache - Honda Bros 400 - Yamaha SR500 - Honda Transalp - Kawasaki ZX-7R - Honda CB-1 - Honda 929 Fireblade - Honda NTV650 [b]Current[\b] Honda CB500 |
