Im new here and need help deciding on a new bike!

Hello everyone!

Ive just signed up and need some help on what bike to buy next! At the minute im riding a 2006 R6, I love how quick it turns and how nimble it is, but I really want something with more low end grunt and a bit more power!

Ive narrowed it down to a CBR1000RR and ZX10R, both bikes will either be a 2008 or 2009 model. I can see the ZX10R seems to have quite a bit more power then the CBR1000RR and most of the reviews ive read say it handles nearly as well. Its also a bit cheaper! But im just wondering if anyone has had both or ridden both and can help me decide! I want the best bike for the money, I do quite alot of fast twisty road riding and a few track days. I quite like the look of them both so looks isnt an issue, its purely which is the better bike to ride!

Any advice would be much appriciated!

Why don't you get test rides? It's the best way to decide.

Probably what im going to end up doing, but the thing is, a 30 minute test ride doesn't really help me know what the bike is going to be like to live with for a year or so!

I can get a new ZX10R for £1.5k cheaper then a new CBR1000RR, but if the CBR is worth the extra then id go for that!

If you want low down grunt then surely a v-twin is the place to start looking?

Tell them to go sod themselves and you want a couple of hours at least. Take it on all the kinds of roads you're likely to encounter. If a dealer won't let you do that, walk out and go elsewhere.

Trouble with asking people on the internet is that folk who've owned either will be biased, folk who've ridden either will be biased too and folk who've walked past one in a carpark once will wade in with detailled descriptions of what they're like and why you should buy one or the other.

The reviews seem to rate the CBR just a little bit better then the ZX10R, but I suppose its personal preference!

I dont want a V-Twin, I had a go on a 1098S and hated it.

Ill see what I can do on test rides, try and find a place with both bikes in stock!

I really want a superbike to be honest!

I love my R6 to bits, I like the way it handles and I like the way its so stable but you still have to work it hard to be very fast! I just wish it had a load more power, its really lacking low down, and the top is ok, but I want more power! So I figure a 1000cc superbike is the next logical step up. You still get that pin sharp handling but with more power!

HONDA is always, and holds more value so you won't loose as much.

Never ridden either , don't know that much about superbikes.

Tried a Daytona 675, it was ok, but I preferred my R6

Its definitely between a ZX10R and CBR1000RR

Reading reviews - the general consensus seems to be that the 2008 ZX10 is a more track focused bike & can be a proper handful/bitch to ride on the road (one of the magazines test riders trashed one on the track) Embarassed

but the Honda will not only do what most of the other bikes do (better?) but will flatter the rider as well. Laughing

Depends on what/where you are going to do most of your riding?

But like previous posters have said - if you are spending that sort of money, then you should have an extended test ride.

To be honest I think I would prefer the CBR, but there is a massive difference in price.

Im just wondering if the CBR is really worth the extra. My R6 is quite track focused but I like it for that Smile

Well, ive emailed a dealer that has a new one in stock for £7499 and one thats done 1200 miles, with monster energy graphics and a few other mods for £6700, so Im going to go and have a look at both of them hopefully and test ride one of them, and see if I like it!

Ive emailed a company with a CBR1000RR for £8500, which im hoping to test ride aswell.

The reviews do say the ZX10R is the most fun, where as the CBR is the best bike!

Ive booked some extended test rides on Tuesday for each bike, so hopefully, will have a nice new 1000cc bike on Tuesday Very Happy

Went to test ride a new CBR1000RR today, not even going to bother trying the ZX10R, Ive fallen in love with the CBR. It felt lighter and felt like it turned better then my 06 R6, it was very stable and seriously quick! Ive just got to sort some finances out and should have it by the end of the month Very Happy
