Check your pads for wear.

Could be that the brakes just need a damn good clean.

Can you explain a little bit more what the noise sounds like, where its coming from?

I ride a DRZ400SM and when i brake hard with the front i can hear a 'hissing', probably more of a whir, thought something was wrong to start with but it seems its just the noise it makes.

It could do with some 'stickier' pads and a bit of a clean but it brakes well enough to do awesome stoppies Razz

If one pad is wearin more than the other, then the pistons might be stuck in the caliper and need a good clean up to free them! If it's a sliding caliper, i coul be the bolts the caliper slides on are corroded or covered in crap, stopping the caliper moving as it should. Also what bike? A Mito?

Sintered pads make a kind of hissing sound as they rub against the brake disc.
