The worst bike dealership I ever asked for a test ride from was 3X Motorcycles at Ringwood, although this was years ago and they seem to have improved since then. They sat me down and made me fill out a form, listing everything except my cat's name, then the bloke started this conversation:
Sales Bod: 'What's Your budget?'
Me: 'Enough'
SB: 'How much?'
M: 'Enough to buy the bike I want to test ride'
SB: 'We'll need your bank details before you go'
M: 'Why?'
SB: 'In case you crash it'
M: 'If I crash it, my insurance will be paying, not me'
SB: 'Yes, but there is a £500 excess'
M: 'Which is in my savings account, not my bank account'
SB: 'So give me your savings account details'
M: 'No.'
At that point I gave up and cancelled the test ride.
Cheers

lmao @ £1k deposit.
If they think you're serious about buying then you'll be allowed a test ride/drive without problems like that as they don't want to put off a potential buyer.
I got a test drive in an £18k car when I was 19. They wanted to see my license, they took it with them to go and check with a manager, they came back saying it was all ok. They hadn't noticed that it was a full motorcycle license and only provisional car. |

On my last test ride I just had to sign an insurance form and that was it, they were more than happy for me to ride the bike ~100 miles to roads I knew to get a proper feel for it, I suspect they were less than pleased about me getting caught up in a bit of a snow storm though. In hindsight I probably should have just parked up at home and paid for it over the phone to keep them happy, but the look on their faces as I nursed it through the icy dealership carpark was utterly priceless
Mind you I'd bet they would have been a lot less accommodating and humorous about it if I hadn't brought bikes from them in the past ____________________ 2010 Triumph 1050 Sprint ST |
