It makes sense for places with trouble, but not for civilised places.

But what about global warming. Using plastics glasses means a greater draw on oil resources. They haven't thought this through. Laughing

Is that another bullshit design company creaming off my tax?

Yup.

What next?

Cardboard chairs to stop people using them as weapons?

Paper plates and plastic knives and forks in resturants?

Will plastic straws be banned in Macdonalds to prevent a rampaging 3 year old brutally murdering their siblings?

You can also get shatter proof glasses that look exactly like normal pint glasses. They've been around for years.

They can already make a pint glass that it's vitrually impossable to glass someone with. I've used them (and dropped one).

Simply made of tempered safety glass, when it breaks (which is hard to do), the whole thing shatters into a million bits no bigger than a drawing pin head. Hell of a job trying to glass someone with that.

I was disappointed to read that they are not replacing the glass pint glasses with litre glasses.

It takes baby steps to change to Metric. Forty odd years worth. Isn't that right Ireland?

Yes, I'll have a litre of Guiness please barman.

Already in place North of the border.

As said some of the new types of "glass" are good imitations, hard to tell the difference.

Biggest difference seen is when in a bar which does not buy its bottled beer in the plastic bottles, they will always pour the bottle out into a safe glass Rolling Eyes

Having lived near busy pubs for the past several years, I'm all for it. I'm fed up having to walk home over broken glass. In my previous place, I couldn't ride my pushbike into the courtyard because of the glass, but had to carry it in.

They started to use plastic cups when we started to throw the glasses that had been discarded at the entrance to our courtyard into the pub when they opened for cleaning in the morning. It took them ages to wipe all the broken glass off the floor, so they realised what a pain it is for us local residents.

Colin: the problem is that the British drunks cannot be civilised.

They do that here anyway. Before you leave they pour your drink into a plastic one at the door. People still glass each other on the way out Rolling Eyes this is why I dont go near pubs, one of my friends was glassed for no reason by a litho.

Pisses me off how its awkward for everyone else because certain people cant act right in public and especially with drink in them. Its like shops now, they are awkward! everything is made to deter shop lifters but harder for decent people! like I cant try on a pair of shoes I can only have one. Big tags on cloths, things with security cases on them so people cant read writing., Where will it all end?

There is always ging to be some wanker out there ready to punch someone when drunk, plastic pint or not. I just wish these ones who ban everything would actually tackle the problem and not around it.

Some can, it depends which pubs you go to.

Not living in London helps.

By "North of the border" he of course means "In Glasgow." where people are born with a chip on their shoulder and would glass you for many reasons including (but not exhaustively):
spilled my pint;
lookin' at mah bird;
nae lookin' at mah bird;
Wearin' a green/orange t-shirt yah Tim bastard;
Wearin' a blue t-shirt yah dirty hun;
Lookin' at me funny;
lookin' at me, you a poof?;
Nae lookin at me when ah'm talkin to ye;

and the perennial faviourite

Dinnae like yer face.

Surely you cannot mean the Glaswegians, recently voted the friendliest city in the UK and also the most likely to be stabbed in

I'm all for it having seen people get glassed and been come at with pint glasses and bottles (the pint glass hit me on the back of the head (circa 2004) but didnt smash - maybe it was a pre-production safe model).
