In 2004 I managed to get a CCJ after moving house and forgetting about a relatively piddly credit card balance.

A year later I registered on the Electoral Roll and lo and behold a letter from a debt collection agency appeared and I paid of the balance in full.

This led to me checking my credit report and seeing I had a CCJ registered against me in April 2004. This was annoying as the amount wasn't that big but was my fault so that was that. The CCJ still shows as unsatisfied as I didn't bother applying to the court to have shown as satisfied.

My question is this, will the CCJ disappear from my credit record in April 2010 as per the 6 year rule? Or will it be sometime in 2011 as I paid the balance in 2005 (can't remember exactly when)?

Thanks.

No CCJ up here, but why not simply contact the original lender and ask them to remove the entry? Or at least show it as paid?

CCJ will dissapear after 6 years from date of issue. Its strongl advisable to request a letter of satisfaction from the creditor who filed for the CCJ, and send to the courts so they can mark the CCJ as satisfied. It will make a BIG ifference to your file

Yes, it will. I had one and 6 years to the day it was removed from my credit report.

Mine was for an insurance claim that someone made, only I'd just moved and they sent it everything to my old address and I knew nothing of the claim until almost a year later when I got my credit report, so nothing I could do about it. Didn't bother paying it off and just rode out the remaining years. I checked my credit history file on-line 6 years and 1 day after the date it was added, and they had automatically removed it.

Thumbs Up

You have to apply to the court and pay £30 to have listed as satisfied - it cannot be removed altogether.

tshort2007, if it disappears after 6 years from issue then that's fine for me. Other than that blip I have a good history - mobile phone for years, credit card used each month and paid, a couple of small loans in the past paid off and never late etc. If it's going to be gone by May next year then that's good enough for me. I might get it marked as satisfied if I could remember the name of the debt collection agency that I paid.

It's 6 years from when judgement is granted. (There is a difference between issued and granted).
Note though that they are indefinately enforcable if they have not been satisfied and judgement granted.
Just because it disappears from your credit file doesn't mean it's gone. The reason it goes from your credit file is to do with the Data Protection Act.

Hmmmm, I wonder how I'd go about tracking down which agency I paid?

Rather stupidly, I didn't keep the letter confirming the receipt of payment.

Any more details on this? Implications, how one could be 'done' etc?

I've got an outstanding CCJ for a SORN fine - tried to pay it a few years ago but neither the courts nor the DVLA would take my money, so I've just ignored it.

Ask the CC co. They should know who it was passed to.

Bailiffs, attachment of earnings or charging order.
If it has been a few years, and you contacted the original people involved to pay it and you couldn't I wouldn't worry too much.
Was it the DVLA or the debt collector/solicitors who issued the CCJ.
Most of the time these days it's actually unscrupulous DCA's/solicitors claiming on the back of debts.
CCJ's can be sometimes overturned anyway.

It was the DVLA as far as I know. I'd be happy to pay (well, not happy, but it'd be nice to get it out of the way) were I given the chance.
