I was reading a story only yesterday where the Scottish RSPCA were reminding people not to leave dogs in cars in hot weather, even for a short time.

I thought, what kind of fucking idiot still does that these days?

Given that assaulting a police officer is treated as a serious offence and treated more seriously than assaulting a member of the police, presumably killing a police officer would be treated as an even more serious offence?

So whoever left the dogs in the car needs to be charged with something along the lines of killing an officer of the law.

Chances are it'll turn out something along the lines of the officers responsible being untraceable or some crap like that. Rolling Eyes

Dude, seriously, it's not as if they pay the dogs wages, give them final salary pensions and critical illness cover, they don't sign contracts, they don't carry badges. They're dogs...... The fact they're police dogs shouldn't distinguish or differentiate them or this incident over and above any other dog

Agree with you on the last point, though, I doubt anything will come of it.

Very sad, either way

owning a German Shepherd Dog myself, I feel quite strongly about this.

The officer involved should receive 6 months in the slammer. There he will be used as a wheelbarrow and justice will be served.

Assault PC is a summary offence with the same tariff as common assault - when I was working in the courts many moons ago the CPS always dropped it in exchange for a guilty plea for the substantive offence, so it's treated LESS seriously than assaulting an member of the public.


The guy/gal is still an idiot for leaving them in there though - apparently the nick they were parked outside was one equipped with pukka kennels too, so no excuse.

At 22 degrees the inside of a car ,even with the windows wound down a few inches, would hit 47 degrees within 8 minutes.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realise that anyone would suffer in that heat.

The irony of this is that if Nottingham constabulary get charged and fined £2,000 for the offence, guess who ultimately pays the £2,000 and all the legal expenses?

Are police dog handlers not responsible for the care of their dogs? Investigation and disciplinary action is certainly required.

The other thing is, it was parked outside a main police station so many cops coming and going should have noticed that the dogs were in distress and done something. Or even simply noticed that dogs shouldn't be left in a parked car on a hot day.

If the car had been parked up a side street not in full view, it would be more forgiveable.

Poor dog Crying or Very sad One of my neighbours sons I noticed took his dogs up the other day in the boot of the car, seen them going and assumed t he back seat was down or the top shelf off and it wasnt and it was hot! Evil or Very Mad

Most police dog vans that I've seen have limited visibility into the back if the doors are closed.

As is much bemoaned by the dimmer sections of the media, the police mostly patrol in vehicles, and thus would not have been walking past said van - but driving past in a car.

Well, to be fair one of the dogs was apparently about to be retired so he'd done his "stint" if you like.

They're just hypocrites. It really annoys me how every summer the police are everywhere with the dogs die in hot cars message,quite rightly too. But like you say,if it was one of us who had left our dogs in a hot car,it would be a very different story. The officer that did it should have a prison sentence,the tosser. "They're" is probably a bit strong. Don't tar the whole force with one person's actions. It's not like there's a dozen incidents behind this or anything. One poor decision by one officer doesn't make a whole police force at fault - try to keep a sense of perspective

I think the officer involved should get fined whatever the tax payer loses so £7k or £14k or whatever.

Should be fired as well.
