try a new fan.

if the windings inside are shot then you are getting a short circuit (positive from the battery goes to the fan, through a short circuit then directly to the negative). its the same as linking the positive and negative on your battery.

if you dont know anything about fan motors or how to test them just try a new one out.

seeing as you have replaced the temp switch and it now only blows the fuse when its needs the fan, id say that switch was knackered as well.

The switch is just a switch, the reason why its only happened now is because the switch was buggered and didn't turn the fan on.

Disconnect the fan and run the engine up to temperature, if it still pops the fuse its the wiring, otherwise it's the fan.

Thumbs Up

Good chance the fan is seized - a stalled electric motor is basically a dead short. See if you can spin the fan freely. What normally happens is the fan never runs for years until the cooling system efficiency drops, then the first time the fan ever has to kick in it's jammed solid.
