Since the previous owner of this bike seized the engine and i am now repairing it i thought i should check if the oil pump is working.

I took the output from the oil pump, normally going into the carb and turned the engine over a bit and no oil came out, is this a reliable test?
If not whats the best way to check?

Cheers guys! Smile

Oil isn't going to squirt out. Only a small amount comes out over time. Probably 1% of the amount of petrol being used.

Best test is take the oil pump off, keep it connected to oil tank and put a drill on the bit that pumps it, keep it going for a bit and oil should slowly come out.

if you want to do a realistic test , do this :
fill your tank with 2L of petrol and add 2 spoons of mixing oil
unplug the oil pipe from the carb and let the pipe in a small bucket at same hight as it's connected
start engine and with 2L engine can turn 1/2 Hour and you will see if oil is out from the pipe .
this is the method i employ when the pump has been drained
for your info you will use (approx.) 1L oil for 60L petrol
