I'd also like to know if i can fit a universal or replacement rev counter for a very old CG125.
It has had a replacement engine casing with a rev counter, so i have the bottom end but no dial.

Hi

Most older bikes use rev counters that are cable driven. On these you need one that is geared the same.

Newer ones tend to be electronically driven. Either from a signal from the ECU or just by a pickup on the coil. With these you just need one that provides the same signal, and from the coil that pretty much only means one with the same number of cylinders / coils (ie most 4s use 2 coils with a wasted spark system).

All the best

Keith

Mine is cable driven.
Any ideas where I can get my hands on a rev counter with CG125 or similar gearing?
I have looked for CG125 specific dials (with counters) but with no luck, strangely.

Thanks,

Phil

Hi

Does the CG125 even have a mechanical drive for the speedo.

All the best

Not 100% sure what you mean by the terminology there, but I think it does yes. I just changed the speedo cable on my CG today and it's a cable that goes from the front wheel right right to the clocks. There's a rotating cable inside that has a bit of square type metal at each end that turns when the front wheel turns?

Edit, oh right, you mean mechanically from the engine as this would be applicable to finding out if you could have a rev counter or not?

Then I guess no... I can't think of a quick way you could get a rev counter on a CG125.

ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston?
