What revs?

Right, so I got the restriction on my Hornet removed the other day. It feels like a rocket now! But obviously it revs a lot higher now and I was wondering - where should I be keeping the revs for most efficient riding?

On motorway riding it feels good to be holding them at about 8000 when im doing about 80/85mph - is that too high? Because then the bike's only in 3rd or 4th gear (3rd I think) and my experience makes me think I should have it in 5th and at lower revs.

Sorry, this is a pretty boring post but I'd appreciate any advice!

On the motorway there is no point having the bike in high revs, no for any length anyway. High gear and low revs.

if your cruising on the motorway have it in the highest gear you can at probs about 80ish and keep your revs down and it will use less fuel

Cool, thanks guys. I guess I found that putting it in 5th at lower revs around 80 made it vibrate rather a lot, whereas a lower gear and higher revs felt smoother. Is there any reason for this?

Big_Ham - I'm not sure - I found with the restriction in the revs wouldnt ever go much above 5k. But maybe thats because I didnt make it...it sounded like it was dying.

I was under the impression cruising at 80mph in top putting revs at say 4k is labouring the engine more than at 6k.

i just cruise at 18,000rpm in 3rd gear on motorways, is that ok?
