Managed to Womble a set of tyres whilst at Brands last weekend!!
The front is a Maxxis Supermax 120/65 ... 65 is an odd profile ...
The rear is a 150/70 ... my bike is suppose to run a 160/60, but hey, that is close enough for me!!
I have put the front on - its almost NEW (tread wise)
The rear has a mushroom repair in it, not bothered about that, but it was noted! ... It looks to have a fair few miles left in it and otherwise looks OK ... well apart for it being a sh1tchelin!!
Why do people throw away perfectly usable tyres?!?!
Anyone used Supermax before? ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

i have a pair of maxxis tyres waiting to be fitted to my bike, before i bought them i did a bit of googling and discovered that there are a lot of them in use for road riding and most people seem to be very pleased with them, M+P were doing them recently for £95 per pair..120 60 17...and 160 60 17, its got to be worth a wee gamble at that price

Yep I too think it was simply a faulty one .... just goes to show that not every womble is as good as it seems!!
I'll check it over for faults (had a look initially to check it wasn't obviously damaged, but will have a closer inspection of 'trueness' now I have established it has issues when in motion. ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

Finally got round to having a look at the Maxxis tyre, basically the tyres is 'buckled' (misshapen) and hence runs out of true, therefore resulting in the shaking at the bars!!
It has obviously been manufactured incorrectly, but I can't see any obvious reason why it would suddenly 'fail' so I'll leave it on there until it annoys me enough to change it!!
At least now we know why it was in the bin!! ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

Fitted the rear pilot road today - unlike the front, the rear seems to NOT be faulty and is behaving itself at the mo*!!
*that said it is s***chelin, I am sure it will spit me off with no warning at some point!!! ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

Finally decided that I can't live with the wibbly wobbly Supermax on the front, so took it off and put an 020 I had on!!
I've put the Supermax on eBay £30 BIN - 'Nearly new' as the description ... hopefully some mug will buy it .....
This is a joke BTW ... I have taken it off, but placed it firmly in the bin where it belongs!! ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

Phew, I was worried you were /really/ silly enough to have put an 020 on the front of your bike!
 |
Hehe, a round 020 is a good tyre! .. much beter than a popadom Supermax!!

hi
you will probably find its been in an accident or kerbed and hence the damage will be internal and that causes the bulge.
good reason for NOT buying part warns as you don't know there history.
personally i think this is not worth the risk on bikes
whats the downer on the Michelin's all about then
you will struggle to upset that pilot road tyre i can assure you as i had them on a zzr11 and they was superb period |
It might have been in an accident, but to damage a carcass without any external sign of stress/cutting - surely that is unlikely??
I've had several tyre related crashes on Michellin when I used to race on them, so that is the main hatred. But with the knowledge of what they were like on track, I have noted the same characteristics have carried through on every road tyre of theirs I have used!!
In summery, when they stick they stick like poo to a blanket, but when they go, they go, there is no in-between, they are also EXTREMELY heat sensitive. See my first point, if you can get them into their working temperature, the grip is second to none, you fall outside that window and they will spit you off at the drop of a hat, even when you have done say 3 laps and confident you are into that zone, you take the same corner as you took last time at the same pace and BANG you are on your arse just as if it was a cold tyre ... to me that makes for a sh1te tyre ... ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |
