I have a fairly old, but good nick, aprilia 50cc, and guess what, I',m having problems . I first had a problem with the HT coil, which appeared toi be knackered, as i was getting no spark and everything else was OK. So i replaced the coil, at great expense, and i now get a good spark. However, When the spark plug is fitted in the gasket, the bike refuses to start, and when i take the plug out again, it appears to have flooded as it is covered in petrol, probably causing it not to spark when fitted, i cannot see how it is flooding, the float ball seems to be working fine, please, any advice greatly appreciated.

This will be the automatic fuel tap.
It is located on the bottom your tank and you can probably see it. Normally round.
How they work is, it is a little metal cylinder with a rubber/plastic diaphragm inside.
You have 2 pipes coming off the tap. One to the engine reed block and one to the carburettor. One to the carburettor is the fuel line and one the other one that fits on the reed block.
How it works is, you turn the engine over or try starting it, compression then goes up the tube and creates a sucking effect which closes the diaphragm and petrol pours into the fuel tap, when the engine has finished its stroke the fuel goes down the fuel line and into the carburettor, the diaphragm then opens again and stops fuel going through until when the cycle starts over.
The reason it floods is because this 'diaphragm' can pop or split, which means fuel constantly flows through and flooding.
It must be the fuel tap on yours, if not then the reeds are knackered. Id go with the fuel tap, i had about 6 on my speedfight in 22,000 , in 14 months!!!!
Good Luck let us know how you get on. |

Hi
There is a good chance that you have alot of fuel floating round the engine from trying to start it.
Take the spark plug out and crank the engine over with the plug out (with the kill switch off). Watch out that if the kill switch is in the run position it will be sparking while any fuel gets pumped out of the spark plug hole.
Take the air filter out and clean it.
Tap the float bowl of the carb with the handle of a screw driver. The floats can stick and this sometimes frees them off without needing to strip the carb
All the best

OK, now i have a problem with the spark again, it is a new ht coil, and the wires going into it seem to be working(i got shocked and all!), is there any way to test whether there is a voltage coming out of the coil? there is a connection in the lead, tested with ohmeter, but no connector in any of the three fittings that go onto the spak plug i have, is there meant to be, or is there a gap? the spark plug itself is fine, as i have tested in the lawnmower. any ideas? thanks for everyones help so far, much appreciated, but does anyone have ideas on this new issue?
Thanks, wise. |
