 Posted: 10:22 - 03 Oct 2009 Post subject: Oil recommendations for a ZX6R F |
 |
|
Due an oil change and looking at what oils are out there.
Last change I did I used Motul 5100 (10/40 semi/synth) but not sure what had been used prior to that. As I havn't tried any other oils out there on this bike I'm not sure whether I should just stick with the Motul?
Has anyone got any recommendations on which brand and type to use, I use the bike mainly for a 25m round trip commute everyday if that makes any difference.
Thanks in advance ____________________ ZX6R F3 |

I always use Silkolene 10w/40 Comp 4 semi-synthetic in my R6. It is what the Yamaha dealer used to use in it when it was new and when it was dealer serviced. I have carried on with the same stuff. As long as you buy a bike specific oil from a half decent maker then you can't really go wrong. ____________________ Yamaha YZF-R6 |

As said, any half decent semi-synth in the proper weight will be fine for that bike.
To be fair it's only if you're racing them you need fancy oils. ____________________ My Flickr |

More importantly than buying "bike-specific" oil is to make sure you don't use a car specific oil, like "Magnatec", as some have stuff in that can cause clutch problems. (Or so people say; Never wanted to find out for myself!) ____________________
