What new music you bought recently?
I'm a sod for back catalogs and i've just completed my CAN and Robyn Hitchcock collection.
Also i'm blown away by a group called 'The Aliens' and 'King Biscuit'(ex Beta Band members)
New Flamimg Lips LP anyone? Its a return to their wilder dayz.
On order are LPs by 'The Ganglions' and 'The Wooden shijps' ..bought on a mates recco.
So fans of Left of Center music (weird yet pleasurable) could check these bands out, and recommend me some stuff...I'm all ears..i'm a junkie...fix me.

What is this "bought" you speak of?

I'm old fashioned in some ways...i like to have the product at some point.
So yeah i've got gazzilons of mp3s scattered around, but when i like something i get it, preferably on vinyl. With Gatefold sleeve and a poster or stickers with a lyric sheet that you can read and artwork and crackles and everything.

Over the past few days I've been listening to (youtube, not downloads) this genre called frenchcore. It's pretty extreme, 99.9 people will look at me like wtf is that.
Anyway here's a sample:

Don't you find that most dance music whether it be house techno hardcore trance doesn't have the 'grip-factor' at home...i tend to turn my ears off after a bit. That Frenchcore is defo made for live use. And TBO it has too much stop-start for me to let loose. Fast relentless...yes please. Melodic and repetative..yep

I'm quite hyperactive so I need fast music to suit my needs.
I agree it's repetetive, but you learn to appreciate it.
This doesn't mean I don't like other music. I enjoy pretty much any genre but stay away from the likes of lady gaga and pixie lott... Mainstream garbage

I quite like it, not the best but still good. Sounds like the core principles of aggrotech/industrial got taken stripped down then let loose with a kilo of speed.....

Recently I've been listening, with intent to buy, the new 69 Eyes album, Back in Blood. Its pretty good altho a definate change in direction for that band.

..what i meant was it wasn't repetitive enough. Bit like when Jeff Mills played...Always dropping stuff in to disturb the flow.

That 69 Eyes album is good old fashioned rock. Abit middle of the road for me, but good riffage.

For fans of Soft Machine,Can,Hawkwind( Smile )Faust Neu etc Try searching for 'Trad Gras Och Stenar' and 'International Harvester' (same band). They're a Swedish Psychedelic Rock/Folk thing and i can't believe i've not come across them until recently.

Robyn Hitchcock BTW is likened to a modern day Syd Barrett (Pink Floyd) and 2 blokes from REM are his backing band.

I presume that most will disagree with me here but I would be so bold as to suggest that some traditional "goth" bands are quite near to distilled rock and roll.....

Sisters of Mercy and 69 Eyes are two that spring to mind immediatley, but to my ears at least its exactly the style of music that "rock and roll" should sound like. Its not too heavy, buts its insanely catchy and damn cool! Cool

Have been caning the following new albums:

Mayer Hawthorne - A Strange Arrangement
Chigaco Hip-hop producer turned soul singer. Apparently he recorded a demo just for a laugh and it went from there. Silky smooth vocals. Massive mo-town influence. So, so good.
https://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=227247

The XX - The XX
Stripped down moody tunes. Good range of tempos as well from funky as f*ck to some really expansive slow burners. Good to listen to as an actual album from start to finish (weird concept in the age of singles downloads I know). In conclusion: Reeeeal nice.
https://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=217368

Hyperdub - 5 Years of Hyperdub
Dark, dirty experimental dubstep music. Celebration of 5 years of released on the Hyperdub label. Awesome collection which really captures the creative side of this genre I feel.
https://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=232282&highlight=232315

Bon Iver - For Emma for Ever Ago
Not exactly new, but still on heavy rotation in the house, car, everywhere. Since seeing them at Glasto and Camp Bestival I can't stop listening to it. It's an addiction. When I'm not listening to it, I'm singing it. How can one man and an acoustic guitar make such heart-achingly beautiful music? Fuck knows.

Listened to that new Flaming Lips album Pat, got to say I wasn't really feeling it. Bit too 'proggy' for my liking, although TFL still make it listenable. I liked the "Yoshimi" album and this was very different. Haven't really heard the early stuff, probably won't bother if it's all like this.

Don't I know it...... And thats not even going within a hundred miles of the goth/industrial/electro cross-over region... That terrible place where some very good (but diluted with masses of shite) music is spawned.....

All depression and wrist-slitting I think not!

Chickenfoot. The missus calls it Chickensfeet when I put it on. If you've not heard of them, it's Joe Satriani, Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony (ex Van Halen), playing proper rock. Sounds best loud, but I can only stand one play through then I have to put something on that reaches deeper into my melon.

Like Muse - The Resistance. By GOD this album kicks ass. It's like the best bits of Queen and ELO and lots of classical shizzle, Debussy and Chopin included, with some intelligent lyrics and inspired guitar work. I can listen to it over and over and over.

I've been buying CD's recently to catch up on what I haven't bought in the last year or so. None of it sounds like what you're after though. Laughing

Randy Newman, Richard Hawley, Mark Knopfler, Bon Iver, Bill Callahan (Smog), M. Ward, Roy Harper, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Bat for Lashes, Some Floyd I didn't have, Cat Power,... blah blah blah

I really like The XX. Very relaxing with dreamy vocals. I am a fan of downtempo and chilled electronic as well as more middle of the road rock music so this strikes a perfect balance for me.

I like you am obsessed with tracking down old bands' back catalogues, but I have been listening to a few new albums recently.

I am really liking the new Imogen Heap album. Over the years she has seemed to develop her incredible soulful singing voice into her own unique style.

I am a fan of Matchbox Twenty and am into Rob Thomas' new album, Cradlesong. Perhaps a bit 'mainstream' but he is a talented songwriter and I like his voice.

Also like Dave Matthews Band and their new album 'Big Whiskey And The Groo Grux King' can only be matched by their very first album. They are in the UK in March and am looking for someone to go with me to see them Laughing.

Seasick Steve - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeyADLDYMCM

...this November. Thumbs Up

I fookin' love Spotify. Deleted 40gb of my music collection as I find it does everything I need it to.

The XX - ok. That 2nd clip had a twinge of New Order about it.

Mayer Hawthorne - i don't do motown. A Genre that i can't get (only went to wigan-pier for the crack)

Bon Iver - ok-ish.

The HyperDuB comp is nice and i'll be havin' some of that.

Chickenfoot - Some really good tracks, but some real cringers (like all good rock bands then)

Muse - Clever sods aren't they. Like a good wine they're getting better with age.

Roy Harper - Living legend and was well into Josh White...so am i.

Seasick Steve - So much with so little, A breath of fresh air for Blues music.

For an eclectic listen try The Aliens LP called Luna. Some beautiful soundscapes with tunes that make you sing.
Checkout the song called Boats.

The Aliens

Britains most overlooked singer songwriter Robyn Hitchcock. With most long lived artists they put out some tat at some point.
With Mr Cock you get very little tat. He writes clever and catchy songs and is a musicians musician.
Lemme suggest
Spooked by Robyn Hitchcock and freinds and
Olé! Tarantula

Ta for the heads-up on your current fav bands.

Yup, and I had the joy of seeing him play Stormcock from start to finish at the royal albert hall a couple of years back. He was "supporting" Joanna Newsom. Best night ever? probably Laughing

I saw a band called The Gates of Slumber the other night, and it was pure distilled 70s doom metal. I've also been giving a lot of airplay to Electric Wizard's latest cd, Witchcult Today. I still listen to a lot of the more extreme metal but I've been digging the groove of the 70s. Man. Mr. Green

People who like Amon Amarth, and I notice a couple of people mentioned them on here, might want to check out Turisas - not the new cd, because that's cartoon crap, but the Battle Metal cd is much better.

I tend not to buy a lot of music, I prefer to go and watch the bands instead. I'm still half deaf from seeing Electric Wizard back in the summer, they were that damn loud.
