Hi all. Im a novice in biking yes. I havent purchased one yet. And winter is coming so I probably wont till next year.. but I live in the twin cities in the summer... its a super bike town!

everyone seems to have nice and fast bikes. I really need advice on which brands to look at and everything. And that is true when it comes to clothes and helmets n stuff too.

if it helps im 5 feet tall, about 125 pounds, pretty strong..

What kind of bike do you like? Cruiser, standard, sports? Most important thing if you're 5ft is to make sure you're comfortable sitting on it and with how much of your feet you can get on the road to hold yourself up!

When it comes to brands - always go for a good reputable Japanese brand, don't be tempted by something Chinese as you have to look after them like hell and that'll just slow their inevitable disintegration. Especially as in Minnesota you'll have your bike in the garage for months and months you want something that'll survive the cold and probably only be started up every few weeks just to keep it going.

As for gear, people debate leather vs textile, I prefer textile because it's more waterproof and easier to look after. HJC are the biggest helmet brand in the US but it's all down to your budget and more importantly what fits you comfortably!

I just want a cruiser-- somethin to get me around cause i have no car. Im debating whether or not to get it for the winter too.

do you ride in snow and ice? id think its pretty unsafe, especially at night and if you're like me.. with no shiners or tail lights. i have to get some this time around..

as far as those HJC helmets.. ill look into it, i dont have a very large budget but whatevers comfy, right.
