 |
|
Reason for posting here is that I want it solely for off road.
ie: easy to read as I ride ... bright ? ... and waterproof.
I am also a notorious tightwad .. so want it cheap.
So, here are my requirements:
Waterproof.
Ability to log a route as I ride.
Easy to use and see as I ride.
Below £100 (secondhand is ok)
Plugs into PC and has maps that I can edit routes / that someone can furnish me with maps etc.
Did I mention cheap!
Suggestions ?
Is this any good?

I've got that etrex legend, although mine isn't colour.
It /would/ work well if it didn't cut out 10 meters into a bumpy lane...
I would avoid it tbh.. mine just cuts out with bumps and vibrations..
It's good for rambling though ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |

I went for the Road Angel 7000 Adventurer option, the RA 7000 is a standard RA satnav, but allows you to utilse Memory-Map SE software. Being a sat-nav it has a larger screen than a traditional handheld GPS. You can run it in Memory-Map or standard sat nav modes. So you can find your way there with the sat-nav ... then follow/track your route when in memory-map mode
It is waterproof too (lets face it, mine survived Sunday and that is about as truer test as you can have!! )
To find out more:-
https://www.road-angel-uk.co.uk/road-angel-adventurer-7000.php
https://www.memory-map.co.uk/acatalog/adventurer.html
They are discontinued now, so you are looking at 2nd hand or old stock.
p.s. The only difference between an 'Adventurer' and a normal 'Navigator' (road only version) is the software on the SD card, the units are identical.
So you can get a Navigator and upgrade it to Adventurer by simply getting an Adventurer card!
p.p.s It is a sat-nav, so only lasts 2-3hrs under its own power, so you WILL need to set up a charging jack on your bike if you intend to ride for more than that. ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

I've got a road angel 7000 I'm not using at the moment because I've got my fancy garmin. You're welcome to borrow it, possibly on a long-term basis.
I don't have the proper 'car' cradle for it that you can power it through and the USB connector (other option for bike power) is a little dodgy, but is bodgeable.
I doubt I'll be intending to use it any time soon, so you're welcome to either borrow it until you decide if you like/don't like it, or maybe buy a cradle for it and keep using it until I decide I want it back for some reason (not sure what it would be, but might do at some point).
I don't have the 'adventurer' card, but I believe that may, err, be 'available' on the interwebs . |

I'd take up G's generous offer if I were you!!
You are best off with the car cradle anyway as the USB port is under a waterproof flap, but the cradle utilises some contacts on the back of the unit. So if you want to keep it waterproof, you need to keep that flap closed!!
You can buy the cradles separately, but you could always simply solder the charger wires direct to the exposed contacts on the back of the unit (probably best to ask G if that is OK first!! ).
I can tell you which 2 of the 4 contacts you need to power!!
But to be honest, the cradle gives you something 'safe' to mount the sat nav to the bike with. ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

Will actually dig mine out this week, bit busy with minimoto an' stuff last week.
I believe backups of what you want are available via 'torrents', because you have lost the maps card you bought, of course . I'm sure blue will be along with more details of the processes. |

I think Blue is having some issues with his computer ... font problems or something (must be that new virus).
So, always happy to help ... I will re-post:

I've got a Garmin 60csx with topomap GB, has anyone got any routes that I could load up (South East ?).
I'll bring it along with me on the weekend to see if I can capture the route we go on |
