I've got a chance on a 2000 RSV Mille at a very good price. It was a Cat D repairable in 2006 and the owner recently also had a low speed drop damaging just an indicator and a fairing mid panel (probably could plastek fix it).

It has had the battery run flat and I understand that can effect the electrics? The owner said he had to hold down two buttons on the clocks to reset the electrics in order to allow it to rev past 6k after the battery had been changed?

Any advice on what i should look out for - what goes wrong and is pricey to fix?

You`ll probably get more specific advice if you ask on:

www.apriliaforum.com

I`ve got an 07.Not had to fix anything major on it but i know the parts are quite expensive.May be a bit cheaper for the older ones though coz there`s loads in the breakers and stripped down on ebay etc.

Great bikes though

The rotax lump is an absolute peach and won't ever let you down as long as you look after it. As mentioned the electrics are where the problems will come in. I'd be a little worried about buying one that's gone over though, make sure you check the radiators and fans very carefully as they don't make very good crash bungs Wink

Hmmm, that sounds rather strange. Personally I would steer clear of it as it sounds like it could be more trouble than its worth. Cat D write-off, then been dropped again and now strange antics with the electrics to make it run right. Nah... Thumbs Down

I agree with Matt.

Grate bikes though, especially for the price you can pick them up for these days. I believe if the battery resets itself you just get a red RPM indicator light come on at 6krpm, you can set it to come on at whatever RPM you like. The fact that it will not rev beyond 6k sounds wrong.

I'm looking to sell my 03R if you are interested?

+1 to it reseting the shift light to 6k, rather than not revving past it.

It defaults to a 6k shift light as that's the running in max rpm, however you can still rev past it.

On what to look out for, starting system gets a hard time on them, and the little nuts and bolts corrode. Also check all the buttons on the clocks work, and water ingress into the clocks is also not unheard of.

The motor is very reliable, however some people overfill them with oil accidently, as they have a dry sump motor, so the oil level needs to be check differently to a wet sump motor.

Top advice Big_Ham. That is what I believe he meant by the bike not wanting to go past 6k til it was reset.

The reason I'm so keen on it as I can have it for £1k and it's very clean, newish tyres and chain, various carbon add-ons and a few months mot. Will check starter carefully and clutch etc. I can give it a good checking going over as it belongs to a neighbour.

If you can get it for 1k then it's worth it as evening if you break it for spares it's worth that.

Is there not a forum online, where you can go and have a nosey at what is written, see what they suggest you look out for etc.? Idea

Those sorts of places are usually a superb source of information about specific bikes (especially if you don't have friends who can give you the run down).

Most of these places you don't have to join to read what's written (like BCF), find out what you wanna know and then come back! Mr. Green

AF1 racing forum is the biggest load of sh*t!

Well I would say that, because they banned me Very Happy

The better Aprilia websites for UK users are:

https://www.rsvzone.com/forums/
https://forums.clubaprilia.net/active_topics.asp
https://www.bikersoracle.com/rsv/forum/search.php?searchid=108613

all 3 are UK based and way more relevant than AF1.

Slightlytasty - that's a very tasty price for a fully working bike. It won't take much to get it fixed. The 2000 Aprilia Mille was less reliable than the later >2004 Milles but it's still miles better than say, a 2000 Suzuki SV or similar. The battery might reset some of your odometer and alarm settings (if any), but it's no big deal. You prob. want to make sure your rake is plane parallel and the chassis is perfectly intact. Check the rectifier (known probs) and the back brake (soft and squeegey). Otherwise, the 2000 is a great bike.

Go for it! And do have a look at some of the specialist Aprilia sites. The RSVZone is the most popular hang-out for RSV riders. AF1's RSVR section kind of died due to the release of the new RSV4....

And before anyone comes up with 1+1=3, I got banned for posting website links for a new rider who needed advice on the

https://www.full-revs.com

website, not for naughtiness! Laughing

and OMG...have you read the replies from that "williamr" fella Shocked
