Priority is a helmet that is comfortable and fits properly. THEN worry about the price and looks.

Have a look here.

Sharp Helmet Safety Scheme

Some think the tests are bollocks others swear by it. But it is a good start.

But as said a three star that fits perfectly is going to protect you better than a five star that doesn't.

One that fits, one with gold sticker on the back (cat A), absorbs impacts up to 300mph+

Sadly your brain will be mush at that speed.

Far better to spend £50 on a good fitting helmet, than £500 on a bad fit.

My current, a Nitro, cost me £40.

Prevous to that I had an FM which cost me £30, and my ADC cost me £20 in a sale.

just make sure it fits Thumbs Up

Try not to go over budget if you have one.

For example i wanted a decent looking helmet for a reasonable price so I stuck with a brand i knew and went from there.

I bought a matt black Shark S500 air for £99 which i thought was reasonable.

Looks evil with a tinted visor Cool

I'm just saying the helmets withstand 300mph+ speeds, which is 150mph per vehichle and then all the other different variables which come into play. If there's a £50 one with a gold sticker on back and a £500 one with it too, save yourself £450 because they both passed the same test, one isn't stronger than the other. The £450 extra is going towards graphics and the name brand.

The BOX BX2's are £30 - £50 (shop around) and are 4 star sharp rated, however, I like them because they fit snugly and comfy Smile

If you're not worried about this years must have graphics then find a bike clothing dealer with a decent range of 'old stock', try a few on and then haggle.

Make it clear your there to buy rather than waste their time and you'll probably get a good deal and you'll have a found a dealer you can return to.

I bought both my helmets this way - way cool Shark (to me anyway) with 'old style vents and graphics £180 RRP for £99. Bell Moto (offroad hat) £120RP for £60! Both boxed, brand new, helmet bag and some good will from the dealer. They're now my first stop anytime I want clothing.

Happy hunting!

Fit and comfort is the overriding factor as they will passively promote safety by increasing concentration levels. Try as much as you can and see what fits best. All ECE 2205 lids pass a minimum level of safety so on that front, they're safe. Sod sharp or anything like that since your head will make the right choice after you've test fitted. Everything else, build quality, brand, graphics etc will be a secondary factor after fit... It just happens to be the case that the most comfortable lid I tried on was my arai! Rolling Eyes
