hi guys,

a couple of days ago it was running fine, apart from a water leak. my friend asked me if I could fix it and I did, was just a new O-ring needed, really simple job.

it started back up and he took it away. about 2 miles up the road, it cut out and wouldnt start up again, and when he said what it sounded like, I straight away said fuel. so I went with a can and filled it up, tried and tried off the kick start, nothing. it wouldnt even try,

it has a spark, and I got a new plug yesterday. it has fuel, and oil. fuel is getting to the carb, and the fuel is good (I set fire to it)
I even tried with easy sart while turning it over.. NOTHING

all it does, is build up and backfire after a few attempts on the kickstart.

any ideas please guys, im stressed

Sounds like it partly siezed, and now doesnt have enough compression to run.

You said it was getting fuel, oil & a spark but backfiring? If it's a compression problem then you could do a compression test as suggested by the other posters. Incase it had partially seized, did you notice a grating noise in the engine note when you were turning it over?
The Gilera has a two stoke pump belt which can easily snap, did you take this off or forget to put back on when you working on the water pump?

there was no grinding noise, and I didnt take the water pump off, it had a leak due to a o-ring on the cover where spark plug is.

so minimal stuff was taken off.

the slightly seized idea does seem to be more and more possible.

it is getting fuel, and enough of it too, I have taken the carb off many times and it fills the boat up great.

what should the compression be out of interest so I know what im trying to get.

thanks again

I wouldn't know off hand what the compression pressure for the Gilera is, the spec will be in the workshop manual but anything under 100psi would suggest you will need to pull the head & barrel off.
Here's a link which might help you out. https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=155044&highlight=compression+pressure[/img]
