Im not sure if there is a variator restriction on speedfights but if there is it is a washer in the middle of the variator which stops the two halfs coming completley together. This can effect the top end quite a bit.

If there is one it should look something like that.

There are numerous reasons why, even though you have a racing pipe, has it had the restricter removed from it, it's in the top of the manifold?

it won't have a resonator tube on it anymore so that's fine.

Also the CDI won't stop the scooter from speeding up, when your going down hill, because it's half coasting. that's £18 to get done.

The washer in the variator as mentioned above needs removing.

With a new exaust and rollers you need to get the carb re-jetted i think, but don't quote me on that Razz

Can't think of anymore, it should do 50mph with all that done tbh.

You don't have to do anything on a Speedfights CDI when de-restricting. It's just an exhaust and variator restriction.

My guess is that the variator has ben de-restricted but the exhaust hasn't. I can hit 40mph with a restricted exhaust.

Nope those 6.7 is quite heavy, any heavier an acceleration will suffer.

Something hasn't been de-restricted, my ludix 50cc ped does 45mph with only a de-restricted exhaust, so something isn't right on yours matey.

i'm 11stone aswell so weight isn't the issue.

How old is your Speedfight?

My mate had an 07 so i'll ask him, if yours is the same age?
Because his had a Rev limiter/CDI on it or something, i can't remember exactly what though.

Get back to me with what year it is an i'll find out exactly what restrictors you've got in yours.

Have you taken the plate out of the variator? As my speedfight got just over 40 with that taken out and a standard restricted exhaust. I got about 50 mph with a viper exhaust and derestricted variator. your exhaust and rollers should be fin. It must be that the plate is still in. Have a word with that mechanic or better yet just whoop it out yourself. Although youll need an impact wrench costs about £15-£25 methinks. PM if you decide to do it yourself and ill give you specific instructions.

Just because you were told the exhaust was de-restricted, doesn't mean it has been. I'd take the exhaust off and look inside it where the pipe meets the engine. There will be a smaller washer if it's restricted, if it's de-restricted it won't be there and would have been drilled out.

Take it off and take a picture of it Thumbs Up

Also it's doubtful that you will be hitting 50mph, 45mph is more realistic.

It could be his exhaust is still restricted as even you just said that with a de-restricted variator and a restricted exhaust you were hitting just over 40mph.

I ride with a de-restricted variator and a restricted exhaust and can get just over 40mph on a good day.

I'm going to derestrict my daugters Gilera DNA. The only thing I'm not sure about is what the rollers do and how the different weights affect the bike.

Can someone explain why I should change them.

The rollers effect the topspeed/acceleration of a scooter.

Here's a link which will exsplain it all Smile

Note....

Motors with standard carburation are set up at the factory. If you change to an aftermarket exhaust or derestrict a standard exhaust, you will affect the carburation (fuel/air mix), the motor will be running 'lean' and will therefore run hotter than it should. It will probably suffer some power loss and at worst, sieze entirely.
You need to adjust the fuel/air mixture to get best performance and reliability.

I know for a fact the exhaust has been de-restricted as the mechanic gave me the cone shape restrictor thing and the old rollers, and the washer from the variator in a polythene bag. As for the year of the ped it is an 07, Rally Victories Edition. Today i went out and bought a size 58 carb jet and malossi 8 gram rollers, I was advised on the bigger jet and the rollers from 6.7 to 8 gram will improve top speed significantly?? Cheers for all the replies guys Very Happy

Fact is, its a ped. No matter how much you spend on it, you wont get it going that fast. Just make it un reliable.

As stated above, check to see if the washer is still in the exhaust. the 58 jet might make the bike run rough to be honest.
