Why ask someone else on here if you can leave your bike for a couple of weeks and it'd be ok? You know your bike better than anyone so you should be able to decide for yourself whether it'd be okay.

What kind of fuel tap have you got? Vacuum ones normally have an 'always on' setting which you should leave on for about a minute if the bike hasn't been started in a while.

It won't start, but what's specifically wrong with it, what does it do and not do?

You can quite happily leave a bike for months and start it without any problems.

I think you interpret my post as having a go at you, which it's honestly not. It seems your bike has similar issues to mine where I can't leave it too long. Carbs dry out after a few days and after that the battery then loses its charge. To get around the battery problem you could maybe stick it on charge the night before or get an optimate and put that on for a bit maybe 30 mins before using it. For the carbs (if your bike isn't fuel injected) there isn't much you can really do apart from trying to start it on full choke, maybe giving it a slight twist of the throttle. Hope this helps.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone here ever tried jump starting a motorbike in the same way you would a car? (making sure it uses the same voltage).

Yes, many times, it's not a problem. Don't need the car running.

Still shouldn't drain a battery that quickly unless there's something else going on - a particularly heavy-drain alarm or a pager or something else that's not happy in the world of electrics.

it's a big twin isn't it? mine hates trying to start with even a half flat battery so that is what i'd suspect.

You certainly SHOULD be able to leave pretty much any bike out for two weeks without problem.
Possible your battery was already on the way out (batteries always go this time of year with the cold weather) or an alarm was excessively draining the battery, etc.

Why you need a hill.

2nd or 3rd gear, couple of paces and then drop the clutch. Should be enough for it to catch and fire.

Let me guess you have a alarm on the bike....

If a 08 bike is not starting after 2 weeks being stood, then either you don't ride it long enough each time to keep the battery charged or something is amiss with the charging system.
