bit of history on it.
I sold my GY125 chinese bike about 2-3 years ago. When i sold it i just give the buyer the full log book and that was that.
Since then i've had loads of arguments with the dvla from fines for no tax e.t.c..
That was (supposedly) resolved about a year ago.
So today i get a letter from north yorkshire district council that the above vehicle has been abandoned in a garage and i'm responsible for it
They say i have seven day's to remove it or i'll be charged for the recovery/disposal of it.
So,the question...
Do i phone them up and tell them the truth (not my bike e.t.c.) or do i go down there and get it back?
It's still in my name although i don't have the log book or the keys.
What do you think BCF ____________________ DRZ-400sm |

sounds like a win win situation?
but i bet if plod find out whats going on they will blame you why cos you are there.
i would leave well alone and explain to the council you have sold it!
put it in writing, so they cant say you did`nt inform them.
sounds tempting to go and get it back, but i bet this situation is just waiting to bite you on the arse ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now! |

If i did take it and got got stopped on the way home by the cops,i'd have trouble explaining why i have a bike in the van with no key's or log book.
Thing is,if i did tell them it's not my bike they would then tell me to take that up with the dvla.
I'd then be back into arguing with them over back dated tax e.t.c. and you just can't win against them.
Easy option would be to tell them it was stolen years ago and it was so worthless that i didn't bother reporting it ?
Seems a lot of grief for an old heap of shit.
This is the bike when i bought it:

And this is it when i sold it

Is it even worth the trouble ____________________ DRZ-400sm |

Just spoke to the council about it and was completely honest about it.
She said either way the bikes registered to me according to the dvla so i will be responsible for it.
The bloke who owns the garage (assuming it's the lad i sold it to) is being evicted and has had no contact with them
She say's (even though i told her it's not my bike) just come down and get it
It's probably worthless now but i have a van,so it'll only cost me £20 go down and get it. ____________________ DRZ-400sm |

Obviously i know giving the full log book away was a stupid thing to do,but that's been over and done with 3 years ago and i learned my lesson from it.
I have no use for the bike really, but if i don't get it then i'll be getting more fines through for it when the council dispose of it.
It's not like the guy i sold it to wants it back,he's had lots of opportunity's to do that and has not bothered.
In the same way,he had plenty time to send the log book off in his name, but instead choose to leave it in my name and run up fines/speeding tickets galore which all come back to me.
I dont want the bike, but i dont want any more fines either. ____________________ DRZ-400sm |

did you sell the bike on with a bill of sale, if not i'd go and collect the bike and strip for ebay.
win
besides who from the council is gonna tell the lad they've just evicted that they rang the last owner/keeper to collect the vehicle. i'm sure the council have got more important things to do. ____________________ I once saw a bloke shagging a donkey.... in Saudi arabia. If I was in this situation, I'd call the DVLA again, explain that the bike was sold XX years ago and that you have not been responsible for it during this time. Tell them that it is their error in not updating their database.
Give the name and address of the person you sold it to, and a rough date of sale (month and year), and tell them that you would like these details updated so you are not wrongly contacted again!
Get shitty with them if they kick up a fuss and tell them you are going to have to go to the police to sort it out (this is probabably also a good idea anyway). Remember to ask for the name of the person you are talking to at the DVLA, this always makes it sound like everything is being noted down too. ____________________ ZXR750R (M2) - For the road.

DVLA won't accept that i'm not the owner of the bike without the details of the bloke i sold the bike to,which i can't remember.
I rang the council back and told them the situation again and there going to make sure the charges for scrapping the bike are sent to the person who owned the garage and not me.
The bikes just not worth the effort

Well, if it comes to the point where you do need to get the bike, then just strip it down, grind off the frame number and dump it (chop it up and take it to the dump as scrap metal tubing). Then sell the parts (if they are actually worth anything!?
