Lock picking

Anyone done much?

I bought a set well over a year ago, and never really used it.
Until today I was in the £1 shop and bought a cheap barrel lock (It was £1...)

After about 15-20mins practise, I can open it pretty much every time in about 20seconds.

It's shocking!

The practise really fascinates me. I'm also amazed how much online shops charge for what are essentially some very thing bits of metal.

I have a set. Filing cabinets are the best locks to pick. I can get into to one in about 4 seconds.

I've picked a bicycle lock and a couple of padlocks, but never had any success with ignition or door locks.

I can pick the Yale on my garage door but they have an extra security pin thing that I can't get past.

Yeah, I play around with it a bit.
You're right, it is alarmingly easy to get into a cheap lock. If you fancy having a look at some more advanced techniques, I'd say have a look at some of the stuff that 2600's HOPE conference have recorded in the past.

some cheap padlocks you can just ram a hacksaw blade all the way up and it moves the slide itsself, bypassing the lock mechanism.

When I was about 10 I once lost the key to a suitcase containing my luggage for a weeks worth of camping, it only had a shitty padlock on it.

Luckily my brother had brought me back a nice kid size rambo knife from Spain, which I took with me since I figured if I got attacked by a bear I;d be able to fend it off and if I needed to catch my own food I could stab a rabbit and skin it.

Well that knife had it open in about 0.fuckall seconds, although the lock was useless after that. I've not had reason to try it again, but I guess it could be an interesting hobby to take up whilst the missus is watching shite on TV.

That's what I've got, think it was about £30 inc postage. Which is crazy.

And it opens a lock like this, with 5 pins in 20ish seconds.

I fancy picking up another pick set. Someone was selling one on the forum recently, wish I snapped it up.

When I was younger I was really interesting but never got a set.

How much harder is house lock compared to a 5 pin?

I'd say this is pretty much your average house lock. Providing you don't use a dead bolt.

I think 5 pin is about average.

They look like that on the inside. You have to line up the break in the pin with the rotating barrel/housing. Then it'll spin. Obviously the more pins the harder it is.

See what I never got, was how do you manage to get all 5 lined up perfectly, without being able to see into the lock?

I used to try and pick random locks as a kid, the only ones I successfully managed to pick were my Uncles Metro, Mini and something else he had at the time, I picked them with a key from a red cashbox, I used to put the key fully in-wiggle it-pull it out a touch-wiggle it and so on till the key was out-push it back in and turn, one open car...( The key went straight in in the first place as it was thinner than the normal key )...

I'm going to have a look at those sets posted above now though...

Edit : Question, is it easier to pick with a loose set of picks or the flick set ?...

I had a look at this about a year ago because I thought it would be an interesting skill to have. I never got a kit because I was skint but learnt how to open one of these;

With a coke can lol. Hasn't really served much use other than to open peoples lockers or unchain some one's push bike. Not to steal mind. Would put something random in a locker so they thought how did that get in there and moved the bikes about.

I recently had cause to break in to one of my own premises. I thought that I would have to engage the services of a locksmith and pay a king's ransom for his time. However, after spending a few minutes researching on t'internet I found out all that I needed to know in order to burglarize myself. The locks concerned were eurolocks and all that I needed was an adjustable spanner. Armed with said tool I was in within seconds. Little wonder that burglars have such an easy time getting into properties.
Be warned, if you use eurolocks on your doors then you should think seriously about upgrading your security.

Yep the bump keys work got a set i made here from blanks. Always fun to open someones front door for them in 2 seconds when you go back to there house.
Seriously though bump keys are scary when you see how fast they can open locks which is one of the reasons i have the 12G alarm mine and 2 separate alarms now guarding my bike.

i only use manual picks every now and again when im bored i prefer pick guns there alot faster
I used to use a brockhage manual pick gun for a while was pretty good at padlocks and yale door locks but is a pain in the arse to set right. Then i borrowed a KLOM electric gun from a locksmith friend to try and had one ordered within an hour. This things opened just about everything Ive thrown at it including the ABUS 55/60 padlocks and the lock on my £85 doberman chain which are a cunt to pick manualy.
