Asics are very good , think lots of trainers are made mostly for casual wear but asics are made more for the job.

Go to an upandrunning store and get them to watch you run. They'll then suggest ones to correct your running style.

I've got a 3 year old pair of asics that have held up well from when I used to do cardio.

Yea went to a running shop and got fitted.

The shoes were £64 and I was running in skating shoes and also got blisters but now can run much further and feet are fine.

As Tom says, get your running style checked and then choose shoes to compliment it. The store will help here.

Everyone runs differently, so there is a range of running shoes to choose from.

If you are serious about running, don't just go and buy a pair of Nike / Addidas / Reebok fashion trainers...they won't cut it.

Your feet arnt used to running, they will get beaten, even with £100 trainers, which in my mind unnessacery, they will still ache.

I ran a marathon in shite £12 tennis shoes, no worries.

Asics are the way to go. There is a running shoe shop near or on Surrey Street. They assess and recommend trainers accordingly. Thumbs Up

For some people they can be beneficial though, for me I had knee and shin problems running in any random trainers. All cured when I got proper shoes.

Like Tom and others have said, go to a shop and get them fitted. I have got a pair of Saucony. They are great for running in, no blisters yet. Thumbs Up

Yeah don't agree they're necessary. Just a creature comfort if you like.

To be fair I hate cardio, especially running. Glad I discovered lifting weights Laughing

By probably not living past 50 most of the time, thus their knees didn't need to last as long.

They also probably ran on ground which was a lot softer than tarmac/concrete meaning less damage to their knees (although they admittedly wouldn't have nice even ground to run meaning more like to sprain ankles, knees).

I am sure running especially on tarmac for the first 5-10 year might be alright. After that I would expect some knee problems to occur, resulting in an operation stopping you from running and causing other inconveniences. Cheap answer: Don't run on tarmac (but that isn't always possible).

The shoes don't have to be the best, going to the shop and getting told you need so much support and that this type of shoe is best. You then go online and find last years model and use them. They won't be £12 tennis shoes but it, in my opinion, is worth it in the long run.
