Hey guys, fitted my brake line on the front of my dt, the end was swagged on it the wrong place (180degrees out from where it should of been) putting the brake line , when under braking right inline with the tyre and rubbing on it, needless to say it's worn the outer clear bit of the line away, right down to the metal braid, but hasn't dammaged the metal, will it still be safe to use ?
I Emailed the seller that I bought them from (acctualy bought them in person at the stafford show), he said that he refused to sort the problem with it being made wrong , so thats why I went ahead and fitted it any way.
Ebay shop: I reccomend you DON'T use this guy for lines:

Will be fine to use only the clear pvc sheath is worn, some braided lines dont even have a outer sheath.

You know the answer Jamie. It is under tension from being forced and the tyre rubs on it, this is not a formula for success is it? One day it will let you down, bin it before it does.

as long as Id eliminate the wearing out risk, and the metal didnt look too worn out, Id use it, whether or not Id recommend it to someone else however is a different matter.

Cheers
John

Hi

If it is just the outer shrink wrap and it isn't still rubbing then it will probably be OK.

If the braiding has been damaged at all then bin it.

All the best

Keith

hold on a tick... you're bashing a seller because, it sounds like to me, you fitted it wrong in the first place!

theres not a whole lot to a braided brake line, certianly nothing that can be 'wrong'.. sounds like you just put it on the wrong way round or didnt route it properly causing it to rub on your tyre (surely when you put them on and saw it was touching the tyre this would have tipped you off??)

im not surprised the guy wouldnt do anything about it, its not his or the manufacturers fault you've damaged it.

First of all, it wasn't touching the tyre unless the suspention is fully compressed under hard braking, and seccondly, he has swagged the ends on WRONG, roughly180 degrees from the way that it should of been, making the right angled banjo for the caliper the wrong way, and the 15degree curved one for the master cyclinder the right way, and no way in hell was i going to twist the line to get it on the caliper end.

Well Jamie Stokes World chat champion,my name is Ian and i own Cobra Performance this is the first i have come a cross your problem with your brake line.If we have made you a brake line that did not fit your bike there is no way we would not have put the problem right for you.
We make hundreds of brake lines for customers all over the world every week,we also sponsor a lot of top riders on and off road with our brake lines who if they thought they were not up to the high specification they needed they would not use them (there is a list of some of the riders listed on the cobra performace ebay front page). I know none of these riders ride yamaha DT125s but I am sure we can make a DT125 brake line.
On the paper work you received there is also a tel no for you to ring if you had a problem and you have not talked to me at all. I throw more bits of line away that it would take to make your brake line.
Apart from our Cobra Performance Ebay shop there is also our other shop called East Mids Speed Shop. This has 100% feedback on brake lines. I am not saying that we have not made you a line that does not fit your bike but usually we are 99.9% acurate every time. For that 0.1% where a mistake can be made we always correct any problems if we are notified. We are only human after all, nobody is 100% perfect 100% of the time.
I have only been riding bikes for 34 years and racing professionally for a good few years. I know this probably does not stand up against your experience of only a few months but I cannot understand why on earth you would fit a brake line to your bike that doesn't fit. Surely it is common sense that this is down right dangerous.
Even though you have publicly slagged my company off on this forum you are welcome to contact me on 07931308702 and I will still rectify the problem. If the brake line has been fitted correctly and there is a problem please get it sorted out as not only are you a danger to yourself but other road users as well. Hope to hear from you soon. Ian.

Well cobra performance, L Plate warrior, perhaps you should check what email address he sent the email to and find out why you didn't get it? Wink
Otherwise, Thumbs Up for responding in a moderately civil manner.

For Jamie; if there's any danger of it touching again, I'd stick some tape around the worn bit. That way it should be quite obvious if it is rubbing again, as opposed to then letting the braiding get worn away as well.

Please use paragraphs. I'm not even going to be bothered to try to read that stuff.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Interesting, I have been comunicating with a guy called tony who said that he IS the guy who sold me this line.... ?
The reason I fitted it is becuase I was told that I wouldn't be getting a replacement, as because it was bought at stafford, and payed for with cash, there is no warrenty and/or proof they were bought from you.
Can you confirm you are the guy who sold me this line at the stafford show and was making them onsite ?, If you were you will remember me asking you to sort me out some bleed nipples in stainless too ?
Ill contact you tomorrow and hopfully the problem can be sorted.
