So, I have a project that needs it's drive turned through 90 degrees. Essentially I'd like a 1:1 ratio, but it's not massively important. Somewhere between 1:1 and 2:1 would be ok. up to about 40hp, 1000 rpm input, no idea of the torque, but certainly no more than 60nm.

I'm liking the idea of an industrial gearbox, like these:

But, I think it's going to be big, expensive and heavy. Another option is a shaft drive motorcycle setup, but I have no clue as to what to look for, and what drive ratio it would give. All I'm aware of is Moto Guzzi, Beemers and some Divvys that have them, but any more tech specs I'm lost on.

Could someone give me some clue? Preferably with pics of a stripped down unit?

You need a bevel box off a shaft drive bike. I'd suggest a Yammy XS/XJ bike like the xs1100. Most if not all of them will be a completely independant unit.

If thats the case I have the engine/gearbox and rear wheel off a XJ650 so you could work with either end bezel wise. Off the turbo model so should be powerful enough....

It (and a load of other XJ stuff) is just sitting there doing nothing so you are welcome to it.

Where you to in the country...?
