My AA cover has elapsed, but I've not been impressed with their 1 hour response. I've used them 2-3 times over the last twelve months and they've taken exactly 2 hours each time get to me They sent me a free map and CD last month...probably hoping I'd forget the extra hours waiting
What do you have (AA, RAC etc), how much and what does it cover you for (i.e. multiple vehicles?). How easy was it to add cover for say a couple of weeks trip to mainland Europe ____________________ **** Don't ride faster than your angel can fly Get this Free Space

Have had no problems with AA. All in cost 170 quid for personal cover and breakdown insurance on designated car. They paid roughly £800 worth of garage bills.
Considering I was sitting in the house everytime I called them wasn't too bothered how long they took ____________________ Fallen Angel "Nae sniffing my seat now!!!!! "

Think the AA are the best of a bad bunch imo. Tried a couple of others but came back to the the AA in the end. Also seeing as i had been with them so long i managed to haggle a great deal for me and lynn this year.
If i lived further south i would probably try out one of these dedicated bike breakdown companies but they just dont cater for us north of the border. The main thing that hacks me off with the AA is that if the bike breaks down i invariably end up needing it recovered as they just aren't clued/tooled up for bikers which means i always wait 1 hour for the patrol van, then another hour for the recovery vehicle! ____________________ Harold_Shand wrote: I suppose it's like anything, you get your fingers burned when you start out, you learn from it and eventually become a complete arsehole about the whole thing. |

AutoAid, £37/year. Covers me (and my spouse if i had one) on any vehicle i happen to be driving (includes motorbikes) and i can (and have) called whoever i want to come out and do roadside repairs / recovery. Also covers Europe. "Home start" is covered up to a maximum cost of £60 - i guess they don't want to be doing free and extensive repairs at your house
Tried the breakdown cover with Carole Nash previously. It was OK, but they kept sending me car mechanics who are no good for the problems i was having (apparently they were "not able to send out a bike mechanic specifically", the computer would always ask whoever was closest). So kept having recoveries from them instead
NB: AutoAid is a pay and claim scheme (~10 day turnaround for payouts) so you need to have credit card to pay who you choose to pay, and remember to demand a VAT receipt! Have claimed twice in 2 years with them (first time for a 6 mile recovery @ £60 and second time for a 25 mile recovery @ £110). They paid swiftly by cheque and without question both times after i'd filled in the form and sent it with the receipt to them (the form is available on their website, i assume partly to reduce customer worries about it being potentially too complicated- it's simple enough).
If you have the capability to look up local breakdown/repair companies (e.g. internet on your phone) it's particularly great and the best value by far, at the expense of slightly more faff than normal. Otherwise you can call AutoAid and they'll send out a company called EuroRescue, so you're not totally screwed. ____________________ -- Ingah |

Was with Rac but now with AA because i got a years free cover with the bike.
Rac charged me 100 quid or something to recover my bike because i was about 12 miles from home and the cover i had meant i had to pay if it was over 10 miles or something. ____________________ m0l0t0v wrote: Chris, just so you know, JD is a nutter

Me too! Last time I broke down I called the AA, they asked what kind of vehicle it was and as soon as the words "motorcycle" had left my mouth they said "ok, a recovery vehicle isn't too far away"
I quickly argued back saying no, no, no, no, wait, either send a patrol to help me or don't bother at all as I will just attempt to fix my stupid puncture myself on this busy junction however long it takes me (hadn't ever done it before, but did have a spare innertube with me so I knew it was possible). After being promised a patrol vehicle, 2 hours later a recovery vehicle turns up. WTF? If they had of told me they weren't going to bother to help (would have been useful to use better tools and a compressor) I would have spent those two hours fixing my bike. I was cold and couldn't be bothered to argue and was recovered a whole 10 miles or something Then I stayed up most of the night taking off my back wheel to change the innertube with terrible tools anyway and continue on my journey to Ireland.
I reckon the guy in the patrol vehicle was told about being asked to help "fix a motorbike" and just immediately ignored me. At £40 ish a year though I can't complain too much. ____________________ will never give up his CG. I look at my fuel gauge more as a progress bar than a fuel gauge.

ms51ves3: why does it need 500 miles? Are you teaching it how to be a piston? |
