Is this snowy shitty weather a time when a quad would actually be useful?

Previously my only use for a quad would be for playing the part of the dick with too much money who rolls down to the beach in the summer looking cool...

Road quads I'm talking about, agri ones are immensely cool whatever the weather

Be a lot harder to get through traffic, which is a big reason not to be in a car.

A proper off-road quad has big fat tyres run at very low pressures, these actually are useful on snow and may help a bit on ice; they run at very low pressures I believe.
I suspect one with road tyres/wheels isn't going to offer much over a light car.
Alternatively, the Yamaha BW range are supposed to be pretty good, thanks to basically using quad bike tyres:

(Hopefully image should work, tested and seems to.)
Fancy owning/having a play on one some time, unfortunately very rare, especially in the UK.

I've been thinking that a trials bike could make a good bike for these conditions - trials bikes are made to get grip over slippy wet rocks and nasty mud, which may not be too far off snow and ice.

That would be the delightful chap who has two sets of C&S to get the offset right to the rear wheel?

I have wondered about making a "DIY" version - maybe based on a XR400?

(And yes, two sets of chain and sprockets.)
