Should i get a 1200?

Hi
I've currently got a 125 and i'm doing my bike test soon. Not right now but within the next year i'm thinking of getting a bandit 1200 because its my dream bike. The only thing is apart from riding at weekends i will only be traveling like 3mile a day on it. Will these short journeys mess the 1200 engine up. Should i be practical or just get my dream bike? Any advice?

no but short experience might,along with the shape of the bike,although not a written in stone..get a 600.

yes running such a big engine so short a distance will bend the valves and start shaving the crank down, after a while the crank will develop a wobble causing you little end to wobble which causes your big ends to wobble and the whole piston starts to wobble! not to mention the flangle jets and gearbox!

Don't talk such utter bollocks! any fool knows it will knacker the muffler bearings & cause the blinker fluid to boil over Cool
Will also need to upgrade the kneuter valves..

lol, the bike will last as long as any bike doing the same journey every day,
a 600 is not the way to go, mostly they are too highly strung, and don't particulary like going slow.
the b12 is probably a big big of a jump, but its your life and if you can restrain your self, then it probably isnt a bad choice,

Err...I'd say mad_man was referring to the Bandit 600, given the context of the topic, and not a highly strung sports 600 as you seem to be referring to.

I'd go for a bandit 600 to start with as well tbh. Although the 600 hasn't got the grunt that the 1200 it's just as quick in real terms on the road, weighs less, will probably be cheaper to insure and there are thousands of them out there to choose from.

Keep the 600 for a year or two, build up some no claims bonus, flog the 600 for what you paid for it and then get the 1200. Thumbs Up

I agree with MarJay, what bike you going to get once you want a new bike?

If you start at 600, you can progress through the larger ccs.

Its not a bad idea if its a Bandit 12000. Its does not have the extreme high performance of a sports bike, even a 600 sports bike Confused .
I have a CBR 600 and often wish I had bought somethimg with more low down grunt. It goes well enough but needs high revs to find the performance envelope.

have you tried a bandit 1200?
My old one was a beast, had a -1 front sprocket and would keep up with 600 sports easy enough and mid gear acceleration it would waste one.
