1991 CBR 600 F (Underseat Exhaust Project) *Complete*

So i've deceided to spend a bit of cash on modernising my old 1991 CBR 600 F and bringing it into the 21st centry with a few cheap mods.

First of all i will be converting the standard twin bulb tail light into into a LED one. I looked around for a ready made LED tail light but they were going for over £50 and were made of that horrible clear chavvy plastic.

Instead i purchased some 10mm Red LEDs from Ebay for £6 delivered. They were prewired with Resistors and rated for 12V which saved me considerable time from not having to solder resistors onto every single LED.

Anyway, i then picked up a cheap matrix board from Maplins, you could use any old peice of plasic infact, but i found that the holes in the matrix board helped me position the LED's and keep them inline.

After all the LED's were in place, they were glued on and the wires soldered together. I later attached some Bullet connectors and tidied it all up with some heat shrink.

Next week i will be prepairing the subframe for the underseat exhaust. The linkpipe is being made up at a shop for £90. The rest i will be doing myself such as the fixtures, muffler, heat shielding and such.

I will also be repraying the wheels and rearsets aswell tidying up a few other areas.

There is a seperate LED strip at the top for the brake light, which i forgot to mention. If you look closely this picture you might be able to see it. Its clear plastic and under the rear Grab/Passenger rail.

When i have more time next week i will redesign the main circuit to work as a brake light. I ran out of time for today so just used a generic LED strip instead.

As long as the headlight omits light I don't think it's a failure . In my youth I got hold of a can of spray on paint for headlights and did them blue . Safe to day I got pulled 2 mins after applying it

Their advice was as long as it's not interfering with the colour of the light being shown then it isn't an issue . You wont have that issue being black , just have to make sure the light isn't greatly reduced I guess

I dont see how a MOT station can tell exactly by how much percentage the light is reduced ( without having another of your bike to compare ) . I'd ask the garage you use before hand though .

Is there a light for your numberplate? Bulbs on the back are normally white and used to light the plate aswell hence the red cover. LED's normally have a poo field of visibility so you may need to add some white ones pointing down to light up the plate.
