Hi,

I've got the carbs off the Pan euro for a clean as I think they're the cause of a lack of top-end with sluggish roll-on performance.

When I took the diaphragms off the carbs inside were filthy with lots of deposits. I reckon these carbs have never been off this bike and I want to clean them thoroughly.

What's the best way of cleaning the carbs and jets please people?

I've heard all sorts from fishing wire thru' jets tosoaking them in Acetone. WTF? Razz

Anyway, how do you clean yours?

Very Happy

Yep. Soft NYLON fishing line.

Blast with lighter gas.

Soak in lighter fluid.

Sound OK?

I would not use any kind of wire, string maybe.

In a perfect world you would get the carb ultrasonically cleaned and then vapour blasted.

Reality suggests that carb cleaner, hint is in the name, is an easier option.

To clean jets I remove them from the carb, spray carb cleaner into a shot glass then leave the jets in there to soak overnight.
I also stick the carb bodies in the dishwasher, much better if there isn't any salt in there.

Have you checked that the diaphragms for holes or splits?

I bought a small ultrasonic cleaner, cost around 25 euros, cleans jets and smal parts perfect.small enough to put at the back of the garage when not needed aswell, just fill it up and leave parts in it for hour.could be worth looking into.

Filling it up with cheap cola gives better results than just using water.

If you don't have an ultrasonic cleaner you can soak the carbs in white spirit.

If they,re very gummed up, a domestic ultrasonic cleaner won't cut it. It'll loosen the crud but leave it where it is.

I disagree with this. These are the results from using carb cleaner first and then using an ultrasonic cleaner with just water:

I reckon I could have removed the gummed up petrol using just my ultrasonic cleaner and cheap cola from ASDA.
