hi to all !

I have a honda ns125f witch i have own for nearly two years now. I used it for a few weeks and the piston went . At the time i could not sorce new piston etc because of them being nicosil plated and was quite expensive to replate them ect.

in the end i managed to find a athena 190 big bore kit for it so i brought one and fitted it, bike was great for hum 6 weeks or so then bang went again so i brought anotherone lol.. again was all good for a while and guess what bang it goes again.

What i am in the middle of doing atm is - ive managed to sorce a standard barrel that has been reconed and had steel linner put in it and what i want to no is how many miles should i run it in for at what sort of revs and will it be more reliable cause spent best part of a grand on it now and its starting to piss me off because off the fact its not lasting very long..

Sorry for the long post im new to this and i think its a very good forum so very usefull people on here and i hope one off them can help me.

Cheers people !

how come your asking how to run an engine in now that you've buggered 2 big bore kits up?

how did you run the first kits in?

Bikes don't go bang for no reason. You need to find out why it blew up before you even consider putting yet another new top end on it.

can you give me some ideas on what would cause it ?

I ran it for few hundred miles at about 50mph but think little end bearing was causing it so replacing that aswell now .....

it's not the speed that's important, it's the RPM when running in.

It would help if you gave us your definition of bang.

the first time it went it shattered the front of the piston , and the second time the rings got stuck in and and worn down the sides of piston .....

It needs rejetting. You are most definitely running very lean, which means it will overheat quicker, the piston expands and... ouch.

Hi

Rule of thumb use about half the red lines worth of rpm (ie, red line at 10k, only rev to 5k).

Did you check the jetting when you fitted the big bore kit?

All the best

Keith

Hi

Plug chop. Basically find a steep hill. Accelerate up it holding it on full throttle / high revs. Without backing off first pull the clutch and hit the kill switch at the same time. Coast to a halt and pull out the plug. The colour of the plug will give a good idea of how rich it is running. Only really works for the main jet.

All the best

Keith
