Ok, any help appreciated.

My CBR has a small problem. When the lights or cooling fan are on, the charging voltage across the battery drops considerably (from well above 12V to below 11.3V). Hence, it won't start, as Keith knows!

To me this seems like a generator problem. Any ideas how I can check that this is the case, any one changed the generator, and any ideas on cost?

Bit vague, sorry about that!

Could also the regulator/rectifier? They cost between around £50, and I think that the CBR400 uses that same unit as the CBR600 and Fireblade.

Try feeding the hamsters an extra half portion of feed every day, it'll work wonders! Razz

Sorry, couldn't resist

my vfr did the same thing. Rewound alternator was about 70 quid all in through elliotts.

Fitting it is an arse tho, you need a rotor puller or something. I got it done in the local shop.

Wouldn't expect it to be reg/rec. Blow reg/rec normally gives a higher voltage or nothing at all.

Hi

Could be the regulator / rectifier, but as Robby says they normally fail by frying the battery or failing to charge totally.

Use a multimeter and check for the correct resistance over to wires for the alternator.

Other possibility is that it has done the same as the GPZ500 and had the magnets come off the alternator rotor.

All the best

Keith
