Or deep puddles for that matter.

It can only be getting in via the overflow pipes but there supposed to hang down to the bottom of the bike.
How can i stop it happening?

Thanks
Dave

Is it a italian bike? If yes then its to be expected, just clean exposed electricals by hand and only jet tank panels etc

The bike back fired a few times before starting up and would then only run at idle.Soon as i give it throttle it died so i'm assuming it's a fueling problem.

Water getting in the fuel, drain the carb then see if it'll start..

If it does then obviously waters getting in the carb somehow... check the seals etc on the carbs and try to avoid pressure washing the carb area.

I know it's definately water getting in the carb but it can only be getting in through the overflow pipes.Everywhere else has a nice tight seal.

Re-route one of your overflow pipes so that its higher, it lets your carb 'breath'.

Find the breather pipes that hang down low. Follow them up, cut into them at some high point and put a 'y' piece in, then run a seperate tube somewhere dry and zip tie it in place. 2 strokes seem to like this if doing a lot of splashes and fords. You still get a pipe that drains, but also the engine/carb can still get air when the bottom of the pipe is under the water.

The second thing to look for is the spark plug cap, lead and coil. makes sure it is all in good condition, a slight break or bad connection and even a deep puddle will kill the ignition till it dries out from the engine heat, hence lots of kicking, starter motor spinning.

I got my bike jetwashed last week and it had identical issues to you, initially started fine but then died a second later till eventually it wouldn't start. It did feel like it was on the verge of starting every time I turned it over but just never quite caught. It was also backfiring every now and again...

I called out breakdown thinking the carb would need flushing or something. However they just removed the spark plug cap, sprayed WD40 all over the spark plug, replaced the cap and hey presto it's not missed a beat since. So try that first if you haven't already done so!

Thumbs Up

Stripped the carb down today and give it a good clean, checked all the pipes and T'd off the breather pipes and tied them to the frame underneath the tank.

(i did the above because when i got the bike out this morning, petrol pi$$ed out of the overflow soon as i turned the fuel tap on.Could this be related?)

Then removed the HT cap and give it a clean, then sprayed it with this electrical sealant stuff (which i also sprayed all major electrical connections with).

Done all this and it's still cutting out after a wash Confused What else can it be?

Why not just refrain from jetwashing the tank/carb area and just do the main bits like the forks, wheels, swingarm?

Stop jetwashing bikes! Probably does more harm than the dirt!

Mud holds a lot of salt.Salt+aluminum = not good.
The jetwash is really the only way of getting rid of all this:

It's getting better now and i'm starting to think it could be more to do with the spark plug.Definate improvement after cleaning and re-routing carb/breathers.

I like to keep it as clean as i can because underneath all the mud is an immaculate bike and i'd like to keep it as close to that as i can.

I usually spray the whole bike with wd40 but will give the silicone spray a go Thumbs Up

Either way i really doubt it'll come off with a normal hose pipe,it takes long enough with the jetwash Laughing
The above pics were just from greenlanes. It get's a lot worse than that after a day at the quarry.

I love getting it covered in mud,but i really hate having to wash it Thumbs Down
I'm riding it off road every other day and the bike is being left a little more dirty all the time.
Be a shame to wreck the bike but at this rate i'm gonna end up not washing it at all and just let it rust Laughing
