Posted: 14:25 - 04 Mar 2010 Post subject: Sudden Clutch Failure (car) |
 |
|
Hi,
im back after a long break!
My car (Citroen AX) has always worked fine until today...
Set off to college, drove some 4 miles absolutly fine with no abnormal noises or feel, then, pulling away from a roundabout the clutch pedal hit the floor and i couldnt select any gears.
When i stopped i managed to grind it into 1st only for smoke to start pouring through the heater vent every time you try and move off. If you let the cluch up, the car moves slightly forward, but touch the throttle and the engine revs with no change of speed.
The cable has not snapped. What would cause such sudden failure of the clutch? The car has 98K on the clock.

Cheers. Its in the garage for a quote which im dreading. I was just surprised it stopped dead. I thought that clutches usually fail slowly long before. ____________________ Eat well, poo hard

Either the center has snapped out of the clutch or the relaise brearing has gone.
Dual mass flywheels you can get convershion Kit but the shitreon ax wont have one. (Dual mass is a load of fucking ***** Most pople convert to save money depence if its cheaper)
I would have said from when you said pedal hit the floor snapped cable or slave leaking but the smoke makeas me think the centers snapped.
And your clutch arm has been digging into the plates £70 for clutch id say about 3hr on shitron ax smae as pug 106 mk1 tbf not a hard job
Tbf if it Mot got much mot left buy another one.
My freinds dad owns a citroen garage and he allways paying £50 or £100 for the dam things as spares for there autograss car .

All fixed.
The thrust bearing (?) had gone, the fingery type things, some were bent, most were sticky. The cable was fine.
New clutch kit, bearing and gear linkages + fitting £160! win ____________________ Eat well, poo hard
