The Aprilia RSV1000R Factory 2004.

I happen to have found a cheap(ish) one, have sold the Gilera and sold something else so I am able to afford it, also the insurance is about the same as most superbikes (£950 to be exact TPO).

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these bikes and what they are like to ride from day-to-day riding to spirited riding and touring.

Also, what can I expect in terms of reliability from the Italian bike and Ohlins etc?

Thanks. Thumbs Up.

I had a different bike with effectively the same motor.

If it's your first big twin then I suspect it'll be a bit of a surprise. It's a rather revvy motor with a bit of an agricultural feel to it. The noise and vibration makes them feel faster than they are too. Don't take it as slander though, it's a superb engine and the drama makes it enjoyable and engaging to ride.

Reliabilitywise I can't really speak for the newer RSVRs but the old Millies suffered from the usual comical italian wiring, keep on top of that, don't let the battery get low and you'll usually be golden.

Insuring a bike like that TPO is begging to get it nicked or crash it.

The question is, can you afford to take that loss? I know you're young and naive (well stupid actually) but seriously don't do it.

Find a bike you can insure AT THE VERY LEAST TPFT. You insure a £300 CG125 TPO, not a £3-5000 motorcycle.

If you can afford to lose £3k, then fair enough...

Although possibly worded a little harshly, I agree. To insure a sports bike like that TPO is asking for trouble. My next bike will probably be insured FC and it will probably only be worth £3k max.

Probably should wait until you have an unrestricted licence. An RSVR would be considerably more conspicuous than a 600 or similar.

I have an 03 RSV-R, it's a fantastic bike - I use it for weekend blasts and the odd commute and it's never missed a beat. The power is far more useful on a day to day basis compared to my GSXR1000, the handling sublime and the sound thunderous!

However the price of Aprilia are parts are ridiculous, even by sportsbike standards!

I'm selling because after taking a Street Triple for a test ride I'm in love...
