Meh, if you download using usenet/newsgroups then you use a server which is encrypted, no fucker knows what you are downloading. Even if they shut down the indexing sites (i.e like newzbin are currently having trouble) you can still browse usenet raw and look for things yourself using say, newsbin.
Seems like only torrent users will suffer, big whoop.

So long as it comes under 'copyright infringement' it counts I think (I'd watch the vid again but I'm at work..), so, it doesn't really matter which as they'll have you for either.
It's worth reading up on it, flip. There's a lot more to it and a lot of sneaky legislation that's going through with it. One of the most troubling aspects is that cunt Mandelson is creating the equivalent of a 'Pirate-Finder General' post that will allow him (and his successors) free reign to introduce new internet laws without debate or being passed through the usual parliamentary process, using 'secondary legislation'.
The more you look into it the more you see how the whole thing is outrageous and a fucking disgrace.
| ulthar wrote: | Change that to billions. Fucking scum are raking it in while ticket prices to the cinemas are high. Greedy bastards the film industry is. |
True, and what's telling is that the Lib Dems report on it was practically taken verbatim from the BPI report. There's also the fact that that slug Mandelson originally had no interest in this bill, until that is, he started spending time being courted by David Geffen... The whole thing stinks.

Trouble is, the way this law will work means that if anyone in your house is stupid enough to get caught then everyone will lose the connection. Maybe not such a big problem in a 'normal' household, but what about student households, or places where it's just impossible for the account holder to monitor all users activities? Universities? Librarys? Cafe's?

There's a lot more to it than just that tho, Ghost. This will affect genuinely legal file sharing too, not just pirated stuff, and a whole lot of other areas too, some of which will only become apparent when it's too late.

I don't download much stuff, if I like a song, I prefer to buy it to be honest. Downloading films? Who can be arsed.
The problem with this, is it seems to be another one of those new labour laws where guilt is inferred and you have to prove your innocent. Also, theres another issue I'd take with in that; a lot of these new laws criminalise second and third parties unfairly. For example, that landlord mentioned above. It puts unfair liability on him/her if they'd be prosecuted because someone D/L or shared something on a shared wifi network.
That extends to private wifi routers too. This idea that they authorities can't prove who did it, but someone is going to take responsibility for allowing it to happen even although its not particularly reasonable to expect they could do anything about it.
Also as said, Mandelson is an extremely odious individual, any law he champions should be opposed by default.
