hey guys. i have a little problem

i have had all my engine parts back after weeks of delay, but now i have another issue. i bought some bearings for the primary drive shaft and the counter weight balance shaft bearing. i stuggled to get these bearings but i have picked them up today however they are sealed bearings. i was told they are fine to use openly also? he said you just flip the seals off and clean the grease out. the inside of the bearings has a plastic cage.

the bearing numbers are the same and same manufacture, only they ahve (RS) on the end of the model numbers.

anyone know agree on what the man said?

yeah, the sealed bearing is just an open bearing with a cover on and pre packed with grease.

pull the seal off and you will see inside, all the balls are held together in a ring.

thanks for the reply!

the only issue is, i noticed the inner ring is plastic instead of a metal cage. will this effect anything?

the internal gearbox bearings on an R6 are sealed. its a plastic seal. its not going to melt in engine temp oil.

fair point about the heat. how hot would you say they would get? i can test my spare one up to 250 degrees+.

i would get the exact ones its just il have wasted 20 quid in bearings and have to buy more. i have the old ones they are still in good condition with no play and spin freely so i might use those.

cheers

fan kicks in at like 100 degrees which is in summer standstill traffic, and my bike tends to sit at about 78 degrees when riding

Thats the coolant temp which is unrealated, oil temp on a warmed up to hot four-stroke engine is around 90-140 degree, gear box temp on 2-strokes and 4-strokes with seprate gearboxs get around 60-70 degrees.

Dont worry about plastic parts in a gearbox l,ve come across alot in stock BMW gearboxs and most engines have plastic parts in the engine (filter cages/guides/pump gears etc).
