Waking up early so I went to work early. Then I did do stuff in a classroom with kids in period one. Period two I interviewed three guys for a technician job that did not get it because they never came ( so me and two other interviewers sat in a room talking carp) afterwards I went back to a classroom full of kids for a hour.
We then interviewed two guys that did come and both were good but we had to make a decision between them and I think we made the right one (it is easier if one of the candidates is carp). Then I went back to a classroom and yet more kids. After the lesson I phoned both candidates and our number one accepted the offer, the other was nice and made me feel a little bad but I recommended a few other places for him to try.
Then I spent a hour coaching a colleague who is up for interview in the morning ( good luck love ) and actually managed half a hour on the bike and lock-wired all the new bits of carb.
Then I went to the main hall as it was our school play and i was backstage. The students were from the "more artistic" end of our spectrum so I had a lot of tears, tantrums and tizzies and that was just from the boys, the girls were overexcited and giggly and decided to try and plat my beard in the wings of the stage during the performance and needed to be silently fought off.
Days like that do not get much better or more tiring. I spent well over twelve hours at school and did not get a break at all other than the hour when no one came for interview.

Handed in my NI number, bank details and other things to start my new job
Then went to the place where I'll be having a field rave to take pictures. And possibly organising a day trip to the land of the frogs with some girlies in June/July.
Not so productive.
Tomorrow? In the garage to get down and oily. ____________________ '99 Hornet 600 , VFR 400 NC30 '92 , Kasawamasaki GT 550 , '98 Hornet 600

At 12.10am I set off from Reading to Watford at great speed, after recieving a phone call from my Dad half an hour earlier that Gran (Mum's side) had fallen down the stairs and was not in a good way. Bleeding heavily and not breathing.
He performed CPR until the Ambulance crew arrived, who took over and attempted to resuscitate, a heart rate was established but breathing could not be. She was taken to Watford General with Mum following up in the car.
At 12.40 I was flat out on the M40 London bound, Dad rang again to say that she had passed.
I got to the house just after 1am, Mum had shortly returned from the hospital.
Alcohol cupboard was empty bar a single bottle of wine which was shortly demolished by the three of us and we exchanged memories and stories until stupid o'clock.
After next to zero sleep, we started the phone calls around 8am. Coroner, funeral directors, life insurance, social services, pensions, solicitors, care workers, hospital, church, priest, relatives. All phone batteries exhausted by the end.
According to the parish Priest the Last Rites were not necessarily appropriate in this circumstance (I didn't ask why, I assume they are given to those who are near, but not actually departed) so a blessing was arranged at the Chapel of Rest for 1430.
Back to the hospital, this time with my step grandad who is now completely blind and must be having real difficulty taking all this in.
I wasn't anticipating actually 'seeing' her, I had considered on the drive over that I didn't want to, but one thing led to another, and we are all being led into the Chapel, with the Priest in tow. Warned first by the mortuary technician that they were not expecting us, so had to hastily clean up what they could of the vomit, explaining to us what we might witness.
She looked peaceful, but bruised/battered and would in no way be the way I want to remember her. I always struggle with the religious readings at times like this, as they are very... old worldy, particularly final and most irrelevant to my mind yet have a way of drawing out the tears.
It is what she would have wanted. She had lost faith in the church over the last few years, as most of us have, but she was always an Irish catholic until the end. I don't know any of the priests in the area anymore, but he did a good and sensitive job, it seemed fitting.
A death certificate could apparently not be issued until after a post mortem, given the nature of the accident, we have been told this will be carried out tomorrow morning with a confirmation by 1200.
We returned from the hospital at around 4.00pm and I made my way back home. I had to pull over several times on the way back to clear my eyes as at points I couldn't see the road.
For me, she had been there from the beginning. At age 10, we moved into the same house, which developed a closeness that most would not experience from a relationship with grandparents.
She would give every penny she ever had away to those she cared about, and would never allow it to be given back. She wanted for nothing and would spend most of her time either directly or indirectly in the service of others.
Though suffering from worsening Alzheimers, in constant arthritic pain, and on enough pills to keep a pharmacy afloat, at age 90, she was still full of life, and would be up and down a steep set of stairs often more than ten times a day. She was also the main carer for her blind husband who cannot navigate himself around a house he has lived in for near 15 years.
A mess will no doubt ensue as social care and benefits will be withdrawn immediately, but for the moment the focus will be on the funeral.
Her name was Elizabeth, the last of ten siblings, she was born in 1919 in Co. Cork. She was the most generous and kind person I have ever known, with a true heart of gold.
I will miss her dearly for the rest of my life.
I would advise those with grandparents who are still present to go and see them this weekend or sooner and let them know how much you care for them.
They may not be here next week.
Thanks for allowing me to dump. ____________________ So in other words, he stopped you for being flagrantly in posession of a motorcycle in direct contravention of the Hippies, Darkies and People Whose Face I Don't Like The Look of (Police Powers) Act. 1976 |

Sorry to hear that, I'm sure - and sounds like - she had a fantastic life which is all we can ask for. Sorry for your loss, WildGoose.
P.S. I lost my Gran a few years ago and even though I wasn't as close as you were, it still hit me really bad. ____________________ My Project - Honda CBR 600 F2/FM |

I watched my car get ripped to pieces by baboons. Went for a nice Indian meal and then to see Avatar.
Great day and great company |
