No no!you've got it wrong think of the police as a corporate entity or just as tax collectors. There is are no profits in prosecuting he guilty and the criminals as they have no assets or money for the state to seize.
Therefore they prosecute the innocent precisely because they have money to take in fines and assets to seize.
When you look at it that way it all makes a great deal of sense,
I.e. police protect big corporations
https://www.boingboing.net/2010/03/11/london-olympics-poli.html
And people who protest against them, because corporations pay them money and the people who protest say on anti iraq invasion have assets and money to seize.
It makes no sense to go looking for stolen goods or catch theives as this is unprofitable. Catching people for RTA offences generates shed loads of cash. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. I can't believe I still live in this pathetic country.
13 years old stealing beer? Kid should be shot. I'm serious.
He gets done? Because they believe the kids word?

13 year old kid steals a car, takes the cops on a high speed pursuit and eventually crashes/totals the car.
Punishment was a supervision order and a 1 year driving ban.
(and yes, the 1 year driving ban runs from the time of sentencing, so he can drive again at 14 ) |

I can understand how normal folk will think it the right thing to do to call plod in the sort of circumstances like you find a burglar in your house and what not, but really the only reason the police should be called is for insurance purposes. Unless theres been murder committed the perpetrator is not going to even get close enough to sniff the courtroom.
I was having an arguement in the pub once, where I was generally slagging the police off as you do, one person piped up "Ah yeah but who do you first call when your house has been burgled ay???" I said I'd be phoning the numbers of people I know who live on the estate behind me to keep their ear to the ground to see if any of the gear that got lifted was being offered around and to see if they hear any talk of people doing house robberies (people just looove to talk). This shut the other person up pretty quickly, because it's true, the police aren't even going to bother looking for any stolen stuff, once it's gone, it's gone for good, so why bother? Only so you can claim your insurance, it is the only reason the police should be involved, otherwise you need to deal with whatever yourself in order to
1) Avoid being arrested and given a criminal record for being the victim
2) Have any hope of getting your stuff back or getting "satisfaction"
The last time my mom and dads house was burgled I found out as I got home at 3am after a night ooot on the tap, so was very pissed, and ended up riding around on my mountain bike a four mile radius steering with one hand and swinging a clawhammer in the other. I'm not sure what I expected to find or do but it felt like a good idea at the time.

Whilst i would probably 'like' to do the same, going after someone after the crime has been commited is taking things to a new level.
Defending your property and home is one thing and i think in todays society it should be legally acceptable, but going after some scrotes equipped with a claw hammer is crossing the line a bit, dont you think. |

Justice and self defence? yes, we need it to be legal.
Vigilantism ? never a good idea.
Vigilantism? is that a real word. |
Dunno mate, I think if communities were more close knit then a collective of people from that community coming together to do a bit of vigilantism woud make criminals think twice.
"Hmm, if I burgle this house and get nabbed by the fuzz, I'll get a slap on the wrist and be out in time to do it again tomorrow night, Winner!!"
or
"Hmm, if I burgle this house and get nabbed by those fuckers going round with balaclavas on, then I might get my teeth smashed out, my legs broken, and dumped naked in the woods...."
I know which I'd find the bigger deterrent. That's obviously over simplified, but you catch my drift.

I'm more just thinking if I catch you in my house, with my TV in your hands, then chances are, you aint there at 3am to fix it out of the charity of your good nature are you? Guilty, irrevocably.
Yeah you might say they could bring a shooter with them, but to be honest if you're the kind of person thats robbing houses or causing scallywag behaviour then the chances of you owning a gun and ammunition, and being willing to murder people for the sake of a tv and dvd player, is probably slim.

The reason why you're also not allowed to just up and shoot an intruder in your house is because of the possibility of somebody inducing an innocent person to 'intrude' so he can be murdered.
This was found to be a problem in the US back in the 20s/30s, where innocent people were set up to look like they were robbing a bank etc and then shot for the reward. The house-intruder scenario has also been pulled in more recent times.
It's the same deal as with most other things that have been banned, the rights of the many infringed because of the acts of a few. And the law is thustly held in contempt. And deservedly so. ____________________ "There's the horizon! Ride hard, ride fast and cut down all who stand in your way!" |
