Hi all, Now I have been tinkering with the idea of doing a project bike for a long while now, although I did the TZR 125 and the outcome was ok I thought I would give myself a big challenge and go for the Honda VFR400 NC30, Now I did a little bit of poking around on here to see how much work this is going to entail and came across Tim.. forum and was blown away.

Now this is in no way me trying to outdo his (which wouldnt be possible anyway) lol. This will be my first REAL project and am really looking forward to it, At the moment I am stock piling and so far have all the frame which will be going for powder coat soon, This is going to be a lengthy project and will update as much as I can, Will add pics Later on in the week,

Cheers for the complement, glad I've inspired you. 'Billing' and 'Craigs23' (he's who inspired me) on here are both a brilliant source of nc30 info. www.400greybike.com is well worth a look too.

Get loads of pics up Thumbs Up

Getting peed off with waiting for my parts to turn up so decided to start stripping the horrible black paint off the yokes ready for polishing,

https://i826.photobucket.com/albums/zz184/stuster85/zoo129.jpg

Slapped a bit more stripper on the Top Yolk and gave it a quick rub down, So now I am ready to start the long process of pollishing Very Happy

https://i826.photobucket.com/albums/zz184/stuster85/zoo131.jpg

Hopefully by the end of this week I can get a move on with this project. Fingers crossed.

Finished the top yolk today, was going to polish this really highly to result in a 'mirror' finish, I am quiet please with the outcome so far, looks nice and fresh. Think i will be putting this on as it is but the bottom yolk will not polish up,

https://i826.photobucket.com/albums/zz184/stuster85/zoo136.jpg

Also, got the swing arm I orderd, got this for a very reasonable £40 and came as pictured

https://i826.photobucket.com/albums/zz184/stuster85/zoo134.jpg

Going to start stripping and get this all clean and tidy ready to attach to the frame, so far got the hubb out and looks in ok nick, the bareings inside the swingarm look to be all fresh and new looking, should I replace these? Very Happy

So been cleaning the rear hub, I think i have got it as good as its going to be without re chroming it, I really have not got the funds to re chrome things like this, would rather save what money I can for the Tyga body kit and a few other bits i have my eye on.
Here is a quick pic anyway. This has took me hours and hours of rubbing down with compound cleaner and also a fair amount of sanding. Just putting a few hours in after work where i can at the moment.
More soon Smile Thumbs Up

Bit gutted, just inspecting the inside of the hub... Seems the teeth inside (if thats the correct name) Wink seem to be really worn, so all this cleaning and hours of rubbing were for nothing lol, I have managed to source a new one, in good condition too for 6 quid, cant complain. Lesson learnt!!! Confused

finally finished cleaning up the swingarm, Took me ages just to get it in the condition it is in, think i can say its miles better than when i got it. Its all ready to be sanded down now as this is going to be the same coulor as the frame, Black Smile

https://i826.photobucket.com/albums/zz184/stuster85/Arm.jpg

Also all the cleaning on the hub was a waste of time, after inspecting it closer i could see the amount of ware inside, I have got another on the way though, By Tuesday / Wednesday I will have pics of something that merely resembles a bike,

I would like peoples opinion on doing a front end conversion, Was thinking about the ZXR 400 front end, Make any difference??? apart from the price? Wink

This too is being replaced......

Just won this on ebay, Needs a bit of a clean up,

https://i826.photobucket.com/albums/zz184/stuster85/130591688659_1.jpg

Anyone now how much a rebuild will cost and who is a good recommendation?

EDIT, By the way, ebayer says this is in good working order, just have to wait and see though, even though they say this is in good order a rebuild would do it the world of good.

HM Racing are good.
Harris and Kais are excellent but not cheap.

TBH you should keep an eye out for a good aftermarket shock, the stock one is soft as standard. With us bigger and heavier Brits it makes for a wollowy rear. If the rebuild cost is high, upgrading makes much more sense.

Cheers for the advice mate, Been having a read up on after market shocks and have come across a few, The Nitron which is well out of my price range haha,

I have come across quiet a few people replacing the rear end shock with a RS 250 one, Not to sure if thats better or worse than the one i have won on ebay to be honest...

Hi everyone, Sorry its been a while since i updated this thread. I have changed jobs and buying a few more things for the build. I have come across a NC24 engine for nothing so that will be going in soon.

I have spent a lot of time trying to master the art of polishing (keep changing my mind) I have nearly completed the swing arm and the main frame, Will be getting some pic tomorrow and also add a more detailed update.

Thumbs Up Very Happy Thumbs Up

Always was going to keep it mate, too many parts to give it up Thumbs Up

Have you checked to see how easy it is to swap over? NC24's run a different ignition and firing order, so you'll need to run the '24 loom, which would mean you may need the clocks too. NC24s do sound great though, like half a V8 Very Happy

If you are still looking to rebuild have a look at Brooks Racing. Bloke in a garage in Yorkshire who does a good job for about a ton as I recall.
