There has been a bit of leg pull about 2t bikes recently, so lets get it official ... in your eyes, it is 2-stroke of 4-stroke all the way when talking Enduro or MX bikes? Thinking

hmmm! this may be fail from the start.
Dont Enduro and MX require 2 totally different types of bike / power characteristics. ?

If you go to an MX track or an Enduro, 2t are the minority these days .. there must be a reason for that?!!??! Confused

Yes, but they BOTH have both types of bikes ....

BTW, my 2t KTM has a notably flatter and fatter power band than my 4t WR!! Confused

If I'm honest, I don't have a preference. At my skill level, if it doesn't keep spitting me off and i can pick it up when I drop it, goes and stops, then I'm happy. Have ridden CR450, exe525's and thought they were awesome. I bought a 2 stroke because my mate was selling it. And the price was right.
Therefore 2 strokes are the best, especially blue Spanish ones.

The honest truth is that we probably all chose bikes like this.
But it stops the pi*s taking dead Smile
ie: I got my wr400 because Philo sold it to me super cheap and let me pay for it whenever I had some spare cash.

The 2-stoke is annoying as I have to carry and faff with 2-stroke pre-mix and its MPG (therefore tank range) is pathetic ... that is annoying/limiting too!! Rolling Eyes

But the big-kid smile a stroker brings to ones face when you hear that sound is priceless!! Smile

Also the CoG of a 2t must be much lower right??? that can only be a good thing!! Cool

I dunno.

I prefer 4-strokes for the relative 'ease' of them, no mixing fuel, less rebuilds, better noise, not as likely to "choke up"? I do like the power/weight advantage of 2-strokes though and the power delivery can be fun.

I suppose weight is a big factor and a light 4T would have to be, what, a 250? which would mean not a shed load of power.

2 strokes remind me of spotty teenagers and "yoofs" Laughing

Big 4T for the win Razz something big enough to manhandle while creating thunder through the woods and not some buzzy gay bees. Razz

More a question of you over-strokers needing an extra 200cc to keep up. Wink.

Oh and I believe you can get 'off the shelf' 700cc 2 stroke dirt bikes. What's the biggest you get with your heavy behemoths?

2 stroke is making a reassurance in enduros, especially when there's no class limit and the light weight makes a decent difference.

In motocross the extra capacity and need for peak power mean the capacity limit of 250cc leaves the 2 strokes a lot more revvy. You don't tend to get the quick succession of turns you do in enduros and it's more about precision than needing an ultra agile bike.
However, I believe on the lower end people are often going back to the smokers for the easier and cheaper maintenance.

Another 'plus' for 2 stroke bikes is they tend to also have lower rotating mass, adding further to the agility.

I've had (and ridden more) 4 stroke and 2 stroke enduro and trail bikes - in general I've got a bigger smile on the smoker. Oh and they're easier to start, too.

Oh and finally - was quite surprised the first time I rode a 250 2 stroke enduro bike at the range of power. Even compared to the 450s they seem to be a bit flatter oddly - makes sense compared to the 250 4 strokes where they're trying to wring every last hp out of them.
My 200 in comparison is very revvy, but is derived from the 125.
For the 2 stroke oil - get a baby's bottle or similar and mark on the side in litre of petrol, then find somewhere you can keep it, maybe make a little bracket. With that it's hardly more hassle to do.
Have you got the bigger tank on yours? Think I've got the 11 litre tank on mine which is pretty reasonable - I think I could probably do a 4 hour enduro on one tank if I wanted.

Just picked up a wee KX250 Twisted Evil Hopefully prove a better tool for Hare & Hounds etc than the "big bastard" KLX650.

yeah i'm expecting it to be a bit mental in comparison. It's not road legal and I haven't had a good shot of it yet. It needs a new rear shock as it's totally buggered and I want to just give it a good "overhaul" before it sees any mud.
