Is riding on beach/ sand dunes harmful to bikes?
would hosing off immediately afterwards be okay or is best not to go on sand full stop?

It's fine, it does take its toll on chains, sprockets and brake pads though. Probably bearings as well.

Look at the Paris-Dakar Wink

thank you.
I remember my friends brothers having great fun on the sand dunes.
Then (and it isnt sooo long ago) that was fun for the boys only.
We are looking at a bike for one of our kids as some pals have bikes which they have taken turns on and they love it.
Having watched them I want to have a go !!!!!
Its an incentive to lose few pounds to fit a juniour bike!
The dampeners were put on by neighbour saying sand was a definate no no.(we have access to farm land but the beach was a main place too)
Im now thinking I could get the bug and if we get a bike for son I might practice when no one looking and shock my all male family with a bit of girl/mam power.

(I have no doubt there are champion girls out there... I believe in you! but Im busy catching up!

If it is on a beach, then there will be plenty of salt/salt water there?? that isn't good for rust ... that also the sand will essentially be like sand blasting the whole bike (well, ALL is an exaggeration isn't it!! Laughing)... it will kill all bearings and C&S in short order ... it really is a nasty place as far as the bike is concerned I am afraid Sad

+ You know what sand is like ... It will get absolutely everywhere

So a full strip down would probally be needed to get it clean again.
