My middle finger always goes all white and numb when I'm on a long ride, I think I must put more pressure on it than on the others. Tying gaffer tape around the bottom before a ride - is that going to kill it or stop it going numb?

Any vibration through the bars? That can cause it.

It's bad circulation. I get it all the time, and when out on the bike, I get it worse and in more fingers. It's something I have to live with, and manage. Heated grips may help, as with bar muffs.

Sounds like vibration white finger

I don't have that, but I do have carpal tunnel syndrome so my hands occasionally go numb. That's fun.

Could also simply be that your gloves are too small, the tip of your fingers shouldn't touch the end of the glove fingers.

Some things you can try:

Different gloves.

Changing the grips to a smaller/larger diameter or harder/softer compound.

Heavier or lighter bar end weights if you're getting vibration.

Changing the handlebars will alter the weight distribution across your hand.

That should keep you occupied for a while Wink

Agreed. Larger diameter grips, heavier bar-ends. One thing you mustn't do is nothing at all. It won't take many miles of riding for it to cause permanent damage.

By the way, there's more than one way of getting 'dead fingers':

Hi Clanger,

Also, if you have bad circulation in general then try a herbal thing called Ginko Biloba. It's scientifically proven to help bad circulation as it promotes freer flow of blood to the extremeties like hands, feet and brain. I use it to help me learn lines quicker. it's good stuff.

I have a problem with tablets...it's all hit and miss as to whether they work, due to a malfunctioning liver. If there was a magic hand rub, it would have a better chance of working...(for me personally) Smile
